Thousands attend state procession for slain Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh

Dear John,
Earlier today, Israeli military snipers killed a highly respected and beloved Palestinian journalist, Shireen Abu Akleh. She was covering a military raid on a Palestinian refugee camp in Jenin. Despite eyewitness accounts and video by seasoned journalists describing how Shireen was targeted by the Israeli military, and confirmation by rights groups like B’Tselem, The New York Times yet again failed to tell the truth.
Click here to tell the New York Times we demand truth in their reporting on this egregious crime.

Shireen was dedicated to telling the truth. For over twenty years she reported on daily life in Palestine, fearlessly documenting Palestinians’ lives and resistance to Israel’s military occupation. She believed that journalism could educate and galvanize — and she was known for her hard-hitting accuracy and for holding those in power accountable for their actions.

In failing to report accurately about Shireen, the Times is echoing language from Israel’s military censor and betraying journalistic principles of integrity. It’s also a grave insult to the memory of Shireen.
Let’s make sure The New York Times starts telling the truth about Palestine!Email the NYT nowOnwards,

Thousands of Palestinians attended a state funeral procession for slain Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh on Thursday before her burial on Friday in Jerusalem. Following the state procession in Ramallah, Abu Akleh’s body was transported in a convoy to her hometown of Beit Hanina, although it was temporarily intercepted by Israeli police near the Qalandia military checkpoint. Israeli police have also raided the Abu Akleh family home and questioned family members.

As part of Nakba Day, Sunday May 15th, we will be holding a vigil honoring Shireen Abu Akleh’s life and work, and all the martyrs of Palestine! Bring flowers, candles, and your rage. Rest in Power to Shireen Abu Akleh! الله يرحمها 🇵🇸

The evil of the zionist colonial occupation knows no bounds. This Wednesday morning, the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced the martyrdom of prominent, renowned Palestinian journalist and writer Shireen Abu Akleh, who was shot and killed by zionist forces in cold blood, succumbing to a bullet to the temple.

The martyred Al-Jazeera journalist woke up this morning for work, arrived at the scene of a Jenin refugee camp to cover events where occupation soldiers launched one of their typical brutal raids, and took her last breath after being shot while covering the raid. Make no mistake, this was an intentional, targeted murder. Shireen was wearing a vest that clearly stated “PRESS” and was surrounded by crew members, who rushed her to the emergency room, where she was pronounced deceased.

As one of many war crimes that the zionist project commits on a consistent basis, this adds to a long track record of journalists, both Palestinian and non-Palestinian who have been murdered by Zionist thugs in Palestine.

On May 11, Aljazeera correspondent Shireen Abu Aqla was murdered by zionist occupation forces. This deliberate killing is one of many — a systemic attempt to silence the press as it threatens to truthfully cover the attacks, terror, and murders that occur daily on occupied territory.

PYM invites the Montreal community to participate in this vigil — on Thursday May 12 at 7:30pm at the sir George-Etienne Cartier monument — in memory of Shireen and all those who were killed and silenced in their attempts to tell the truth. Bring your flags and candles.
