Government troops engaged in an exchange of fire with the infiltrators in the vicinity of Khirbet al-Jouz border village on Monday and killed one of the terrorists. Others managed to flee back to Turkey, SANA news agency reported.
The report added that Syrian forces found various types of weaponry left behind by the gunmen, including 1,500 electric detonators for explosive charges.
Syrian government troops have foiled many sneaking attempts from Turkey and Lebanon during the year-long crisis.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March of last year.
While the West and the Syrian opposition accuse the government of the killings, Damascus blames ”outlaws, saboteurs and armed terrorist groups” for the unrest, insisting that it is being orchestrated from abroad.
In interviews with Israeli news outlets over the past few months, the Syrian armed rebels have clearly expressed their vision for the future of Syria and their interest in establishing ties with the Tel Aviv regime, which has occupied and annexed Syria’s Golan Heights since 1967.
However, the apparent majority of the Syrian population has repeatedly expressed their solidarity with the government of President Bashar al-Assad and its backing of resistance movements struggling to bring an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestine.
