It is important to point out that any poll or study is prone to many errors and there is no research sample that can completely accurately reflect an entire country.
However, sometimes when the results are very strong in any one direction, it can give a fair indication of how most people feel.
The Washington Post reported that “A new Reuters/Ipsos poll has finally found something that Americans like even less than Congress: the possibility of U.S. military intervention in Syria. Only 9 percent of respondents said that the Obama administration should intervene militarily in Syria; a RealClearPolitics poll average finds Congress has a 15 percent approval rating, making the country’s most hated political body almost twice as popular.” [1]
There was once a time in our history where governments were able to convince us that entire countries were filled evil savages that had to be dealt with in order to ensure the safety of the “homeland”. This myth will no longer stand, just like so many other myths that pass with every generation, as our consciousness matures and we develop more civilized ways of interacting on the planet. Unfortunately, those who are clutching onto the levers of power refuse to let our species grow past these destructive and infantile memes. They wish for us to remain in the stone age where slavery, war, serfdom and oppression are commonplace.
Now that the general human temperament is far more caring and peaceful, we are forced into wars in the name of defense, peace, liberation and humanitarianism as opposed to pillage, conquest and control. The hundreds of thousands of civilians killed in Iraq were not “liberated,” nor did the occupation bring any peace to Iraq or safety to the United States. Likewise, the recent “humanitarian” invasion of Libya left the country’s infrastructure in shambles, its future uncertain and an untold number of civilians killed.
We cannot possibly sustain the wars we are already in, so there is no way this empire will make it through a conflict with Syria, and all the conflicts that this would inevitably lead to. A war in Syria could escalate tension with the Russian and Chinese governments, leading to a larger and more dangerous war.
