The intelligence service that protects Islamic holy sites is cooperating ever more closely with the Israeli intelligence services and leading other agencies in the region down the same path.
According to information obtained by Intelligence Online, officials at Saudi Arabia’s General Intelligence Presidency (GIP), which is in charge of information-sharing with Israel’s Mossad and its military counterpart AMAN, are pleased as punch. There has never been such active cooperation between the two countries, in terms of analysis, human intelligence and interception (IOL 760) on Iran and movements loyal to it such as Hezbollah, the Houthi and the Iraqi Popular Mobilisation Units.
The early contacts between Bandar bin Sultan and Meir Dagan, the head of Mossad, and his successor Tamir Pardo, seem light years away.
The open cooperation between Riyadh and Tel Aviv has prompted other Gulf intelligence services to cosy up to Israel. Bahrain’s crown prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa is openly encouraging greater cooperation on Iran. Initial contacts were made via Jordan’s General Intelligence Department. The same thing goes for Kuwait.
Although Abu Dhabi has long had contact with the Israeli intelligence services via Mohamed Dahlan, the former head of Fatah’s Preventive Security service who now advises Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed, the relationship is becoming more official.
