A report prepared by independent researchers from the United States of America and Britain warned of the risk of tens of thousands of deaths in the Gaza Strip within months, even if the Israeli occupation aggression stops, as a result of the health crisis resulting from the war.
The report, prepared by academics at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the Johns Hopkins Center for Humanitarian Health in the United States, said: “If the pace of Israeli aggression escalates or a major disease outbreak occurs, 85,570 people may die by early August, including 68,650 from causes related to severe injuries.”
He added, “Even under a ceasefire – if it occurs – 11,580 people could die in the same period, if a disease outbreak exacerbates the challenges related to rehabilitating the sewage system and the health system in Gaza.”
The report estimated that “about 3,250 of these deaths will be due to long-term complications resulting from severe injuries, and 8,330 will be due to other causes.”
The researchers expected that “severe injuries will be the cause of the majority of additional deaths in Gaza if the aggression continues or escalates, but deaths resulting from malnutrition and infectious diseases such as cholera and the inability to receive care for diseases such as diabetes will also kill thousands.”
Since October 7, the Israeli occupation army has continued its aggression against the Gaza Strip, with American and European support, as its aircraft bomb the vicinity of hospitals, buildings, towers, and Palestinian civilian homes, destroying them above the heads of their residents, and preventing the entry of water, food, medicine, and fuel.
The occupation’s continued aggression against Gaza led to the death of 29,692 martyrs and the injury of 69,879 people, in addition to the displacement of more than 85 percent (about 1.9 million people) of the Strip’s population, according to the Strip’s authorities and international bodies and organizations.
