This is how his bio reads:
Paul Sheldon Foote is a professor of accounting at California State University, Fullerton. His publications have included biometrics, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, SAP ERP systems, auditing, accounting, and forecasting.
This American professor has a soft spot for Iran. From what has been available online, evidence shows that throughout his career, his public speaking, and his published work, he is a staunch advocate of the current rule in Iran.
According to a press release (apparently written/edited by himself), he is married to Badri Seddigheh Hosseinian in Tehran, Iran in 1968. Their children are David Foote and Sheila Rossi. From 1968 to 1969, he served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.
On his website, he writes:
“I have appeared many times on Press TV and several times on China Radio International and on RT (Russia Today Television). I do not expect any invitations for me or anyone with Middle East experiences similar to mine on BBC or on America’s lamestream media. Other than the taped television program in London, my appearances on Press TV have been live. My appearances have ranged from a few minutes to several continuous hours on live television. No one at Press TV knew what I would say. By contrast, you will find in America’s book stores and on the American media the views on Iran of people who have never been to Iran and who have not studied Persian. For example, see Kenneth M. Pollack’s book, The Persian Puzzle.”
Prof. Sheldon Foote adds:
“Press TV is one of the best sources of news and programs in the world today… I have lived and worked in Iran, including working at the American Embassy in Tehran. My wife of 43 years is an Iranian. How dare Timmerman question the credentials of the guests on Press TV? Has Timmerman ever visited Iran? Why should anyone believe anything that Timmerman writes about Iran or about the Middle East?”
When the Bahraini government decided to strip an Iran-backed Shiite cleric Sheikh Isa Qassim from his Bahraini citizenship, Prof. Sheldon Foote was among those who signed a petition (initiated by Tehran) to condemn the move (The entire list is very interesting though).
Prof. Paul Sheldon Foote is admired by Iranian state media:
In an article that was apparently posted by PressTV and republished here, Prof. Sheldon Foote criticized sanctions as an “act of war”, and called on the White House to try to establish “diplomatic relations” with the Islamic Republic.
In this post, he accuses the “United States sanctions of murdering Iranians in cold blood” and literally parrots the talking points of the Iranian ministry of foreign affairs.
In an interview with PressTV on the election results of the Iranian presidential elections in 2013, the professor says: “It was excellent. It’s beyond anything we see in presidential elections in America. I wish we had the same thing here.”

Comparing Iranian and American democracy, he said: “In America, you have a small number of media networks that have big microphones and they can limit who can speak. We claim to have freedom of speech. You can post everything on the internet but only a small number of people can see it. Unfortunately, most voters are stupid enough to believe the major news channels. In the last election, Ron Paul was even excluded from some Republican debates and was not allowed to interview with some of the major media outlets. We certainly have our problems and the voters are not paying attention to these issues in America.”
In 2018, he told Rasa News: “It is very shameful that today, Americans are on the other side, supporting the evil Saudi leaders who have been the founders of terrorists” and that US officials are “punishing Iran, whereas Iran is the one who should be the one we (Americans) cooperate with.”
Like many other Iran advocates, Sheldon Foote likes to slam Iran’s arch-rival in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia.
On February 2, 2013, when former US Vice President Joe Biden said his country was ready to hold direct talks with Iran over its nuclear energy program, Sheldon Foote outpaced the Supreme Leader by asking to eliminate the sanctions regime first and told the Iranian Taghrib website: “We should end all sanctions immediately; they are costing the lives of Iranians who fly on Boeing jets because they cannot get parts; they are costing [the lives of Iranians] because of [the difficulty to purchase] medicine.”
Excerpts of an Iranian state website that conducted an interview with Professor Paul Sheldon Foote regarding the special day of Quds:
“Israel’s main goal is not Egypt, rather domination of the whole world. For example, all the pressures on Iran over the years clearly show that they intend to eliminate anything that is challenging their demands. Egypt is just one example of Israel’s efforts to dominate and influence Middle East issues.”
On June 26, 2012, Prof. Sheldon Foote told the Kayhan newspaper that “the goal of the West in negotiating with Iran is to waste time”.
On September 17, 2013, Islam Times wrote about a meeting between Washington and Moscow on how to strip the Syrian dictator of its chemical weapons. Referring to Sheldon Foote’s objection, the site wrote: “Prof. Sheldon Foote a California State University professor said on Sunday, that the chemical weapons deal is very flawed and unjustified because the United States itself uses depleted uranium. Israel also uses phosphorous bombs, and if they are really against chemical weapons, then we should eliminate all of them.”
“All these agreements are aimed at weakening Syria against Israel,” Sheldonfoot said.
On November 26, 2013, in an interview with PressTV, he tried to sell the JCPOA by saying: “The nuclear deal has many economic benefits for American companies.”
Shabestan news agency wrote on August 2, 2017: “Paul Sheldonfoote, a political analyst on US affairs, also stressed that the US coalition is not serious about fighting terrorism in the Middle East and that its leader, the United States, is a supporter of terrorism and supports terrorist groups in Syria.
According to his muckrack profile, his work has been published by the Guardian, ZDNet, Lexology, BiometricUpdate.com, American Machinist, TabbFORUM, The Global Treasurer, Hi-Tech Security Solutions, and Classic American
His Twitter account (@Professor_Foote) provides a great insight into his mindset. He mainly tweets anti-Israel content, promotes pro-Iran propaganda, poses nowadays as anti-Russia but the Russian RT is his favorite source of information, and he often posts information that is merely pro-Russian.
