Sammi interviews Layla Yaghi, an American Muslim who son Ziad was convicted on trumped up terrorism charges by the USGOV

by Laila Yagh

I’m talking about my son who has been icarcerated for over three years just because he is Muslim and has been sentenced to 31.5 years!  His entire life has been inturrupted!  He is also in what is called the SHU (Special Housing Unit) where he is in constant solitary confinement!  Is there any justice for Muslims in America? Who will help us since the Muslims are scared and the non-Muslims are keeping their distance!  Why should we be punished just because we beleive in a different religion?  I thought that this is what this country is all about!

Since 9/11, Americans have seen their civil liberties infringed in ways previously unimaginable. Fear is used as a weapon against citizens who have learned to view every Muslim as a potential terrorist. The corporate media has further inflamed the hysteria by claiming that the US government has been infiltrated by individuals who want to impose Sharia law on all of us.
What Americans in the grip of fear and unreasoning anger do not appreciate is that the trick of demonizing minority groups to divide citizens and divert them from the true danger in their midst is as old as war itself. They do not seem to realize that when the government comes for them, there will be no one left to speak for them.
On December 12 our guest on Taking Back America was Laila Yaghi, who told us the story of her personal agony and that of her son, who was imprisoned for what amounts to guilt by association. When you hear the details you will wonder to what extent you can trust the US government to ensure your civil rights.
Until we can learn to see each other as fellow Americans and citizens of the world community, there is no hope for democracy in America or the world. We are all in this together and only together can we assure our children a world where liberty and justice for all is not just a nice idea.

As a result of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Centers in blowback to Western foreign policy against Palestine and other Middle eastern countries for many years prior to this tragedy, America has changed significantly despite some pundits’ claims. It is not the economy alone which should create consternation, instead the domestic policies which were enacted in order to protect the normal American have wreaked irreperable havoc upon innocent American families who suffer under the rubric “terrorist,” which the Department of Homeland Security has used and continues to employ to this day. Some of these policies are un-constitutional surveillance, preemptive prosecution (paying informants to deceive and betray Americans into stating or posting on the internet anti-American sentiments without any acts or evidence of real intention to carry out this hate comments),
long term incarceration in 24/7 solitude without habeas corpus on suspicion alone, strict and compassionless neo-immigration policies that have torn asunder American families in deportation proceedings, and more inhumane paranoia. The courts of justice is now a machine engulfing and grinding innocent Americans like meat using Dick Cheney’s ONE Percent Doctrine of, if one percent of the unimaginable is materializing, act as if it is certain. My own life suffered from these policies and therien lay the impetus why I dedicate so much energy and time toward augmenting the voices of these victims of Terror, a War Of Terror.
This article will briefly discuss a silenced innocence from one of many who has been shackled in chains as a political prisoner, Ziyad Yaghi. Ziyad Yaghi was incarcerated on July 7, 2009 with seven others as a result of the nascent laws designed in response to the Semptember 11 attacks against the World Trade Centers in 2001. Those seven whom were detained were Daniel Patrick Boyd and his two sons Dylan and Zakariya, Anes Subaic, Mohammed Omar Aly Hassan, Hysen Sherifi, and Jude Kenan Mohammed. All were incarcerated with sentences that scream disproportional reprimand for unsupported charges, with the majority of the specious evidence presented in the court trial, being against Daniel Boyd,
yet applied to all of the prior suspects without irrefutable proof to assert the groups’ associations with Boyd. Jude Kenan Mohammed was lucky, he fled the witch hunt in America like others who were perceptive enough to recognize the auguries in order to extrapolate the injustice occurring in America against Muslim Americans. Five decades ago, Assata Shakur also escaped such a witch hunt against African American civil rights activists during the 1960s when southern Americans were screaming in the media and raising signs at protests, averring that this movement was infiltrated by Communists. Today innocent people are stigmatized and harmed because “terrorist” has become the same pejorative.
