Urgent Action Required: Palestinian Political Prisoners Health conditions deteriorate

A European network to support the rights of Palestinians prisoners (UFree Network), demanded on Sunday 17th November, prompt implementation of international treaties and accords that protect rights and health conditions of prisoners in the occupied Palestinian territories. The organisation calls for an immediate implementation of these accords as health conditions of Palestinian political prisoners and detainees severely deteriorate in Israeli jails.
According to official information, there are 1700 currently patient prisoners out of 4600 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails including 75 patient prisoners suffer from cancer, heart problems and chronic kidney diseases. In addition to psychological problems due to the difficult detention conditions and Israeli deliberate medical negligence.
UFree Network expressed its deep concern over the difficult detention conditions of patient prisoners in particular Naim al Shawamra who suffers from muscular dystrophy that caused his inability to walk or talk.
The health condition of Motasem Raddad who suffers from colon cancer, has dramatically deteriorated after the cancer spread throughout his body despite receiving chemotherapy. He suffers constant pains.
UFree Network called on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC ) to work on improving patient prisoners’ detention conditions in Israeli jails. The Network also called on Palestinian Authority to give greater attention to prisoners’ issues, and to work for their release.
The Oslo based Network also demanded the international community to bear its human, legal and moral responsibilities and to pressure occupation authorities to commit with international conventions mainly the Fourth Geneva Convention related to war prisoners.
