We start a new week today, sobered by the horrific shootings in Tucson last week and committed to changing the tone of America’s political debate. It’s appropriate that today is also the day we remember a great American taken from us by a violent act.
We must, as President Obama said, learn to speak to each other “in a way that heals, not in a way that wounds.” The Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. understood this call for peace when he said:
“Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”

                          – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
On this day, dedicated to a man who gave his life for peaceful progress, we’re asking our leaders in Washington to hear our call and end the violent rhetoric, hateful language and empty bombast that has seeped its way into our politics.
If you want to join us, please send this e-card to your elected leaders to let them know we must change the rhetoric if we wish to honor the victims of the shooting in Tucson.

Thank you for speaking up…and out.
