PRESS RELEASE
STOP THE MASSACRE OF GAZA
The Palestine Solidarity Alliance condemns in the strongest terms Israel’s genocidal attack on the civilian population of Gaza and recognises that this is an escalation of the war crimes that they perpetrated in the 2008-2009 war.
As South Africans, we call on our government to support the international campaign for the isolation of Apartheid Israel. Given the disregard that Israel shows to international justice, our government needs to go further than recalling our ambassador. South Africa needs to lead in the condemnation of Israel’s ongoing crimes against humanity by expelling the Israeli ambassador with immediate effect and severing all ties with the apartheid state.
We note that Palestinian lives in general and those in Gaza in particular have once again been expended for the diversion and politicking of Israeli generals and war mongers. This recent Israeli attack, despite all efforts by Palestinians to maintain a cease fire is but a diversion from the ongoing criminal atrocities of the apartheid regime, including the expansion of more than 1400 new Jewish settlements in colonised Palestine and the exhumation of Yasser Arafat’s body.
More than this Israel is expending the lives of children to undermine the Palestine call for statehood at the United Nations later this month and is using ‘bullets to buy votes’ in its upcoming national election.
We will mobilise our supporters and freedom loving people across the country in solidarity action starting with a sporadic picket at the ANC NEC meeting tomorrow at 2pm outside Luthuli House.
