Letter to an American veteran

About 25 percent of homeless Americans are veterans-131,000 according to VA statistics-and more than 75 percent have a mental disorder, often PTSD. The National Coalition for Homeless Veterans has noted that Iraq veterans are already beginning to show up in that population.

Wake up, Peter.

Stop kidding yourself that words matter to them.

You chose the wrong profession.

Hello Peter,

When are you and your co-veterans going to learn that no one in government gives, as an American might say: “…a good god-damn about you and your comrades” who fought so valiantly for your country?

This is because they don’t give a “good god-damn about America” per se, they only care about themselves and their own agendas which is to fill their pockets with the kinds of profits that only a country on a constant war footing can generate.  Who the enemy is doesn’t really matter, as long as there is an enemy.

“Patriotism” is a word that rolls off their tongues like they roll out wads of notes to pay for luxuries for themselves and their families, while the families of those who suffer death and horrendous injuries for their profits mean less than nothing to them.

Wake up, Peter.  Stop kidding yourself that words matter to them.  You chose the wrong profession.  You should have become a Wall Street banker or bought some shares in the armaments industry if you wanted a reward out of the wars that are being constantly fought in the name of “Homeland” Security.  What a joke that phrase is.  The more wars they launch, the less secure the “Homeland” becomes and so the vicious circle goes around and around.

I feel really sad when I read your emails, because you are not going to get anywhere pleading with these people.  They are the scum of the earth and will never give an inch unless they are forced to do so at the points of the guns that they are so desperately trying to make sure will never, ever be pointed at them.

I’m lucky, I was never drafted and never wanted to go to war but, when I was young the sound of a military band and the cadence of marching feet did stir something primal in me, which I thought, at the time, might have been patriotism.  But it never happened at the right time in history.

As I’ve said.  I was lucky and, so far, my children have been too.  But I grieve for those who were not so fortunate in the past, and who will not be so fortunate in the future.

Take care,

Anthony Lawson

The number of homeless Iraq and Afghanistan veterans is exploding in the United States, either living on the streets or in temporary housing or receiving federal vouchers to help pay rent for an apartment.

Response to Union Leader editorial

Using the newspaper to support government made laws to stop any one US citizen not to live in NH because it is not what the trusted people in power want living here.  This is so wrong.

To have the editorial promoting this type of discrimination and Hitler form of government must be stopped. This is just like zoning dangerous or mentally dysfunctional US Military Veterans from living in your neighborhood  because we are not as good in character as required by your social class.

To speak freely in or about government is not just a Democrat or Republican right.  It is the right of all US citizens to speak freely and at all times have the right to change wrongs in government.  The Free Staters are US Citizens and they can live in any state that they choose with out government officials using the power of government to seek retribution for the sole purpose that it is to stop this type of individual that this special class of NH citizens does not want in their state.

My wife and I used our life savings to purchase eleven-acres of land and we are building cabins in the woods for homeless NH US Military Veterans.  One of the first questions leaders in the Lee town hall, State elected officials and neighbors ask is “how will I keep the dangerous, drug addicts, alcoholic out”?  What type of society in NH have we become?  We now can choose which US Military Veterans are qualified to live in our neighborhood.  We are the men and women as children gave everything up to fight to protect and defend our Constitution.   Now it is the right of government officials to weed out any US Armed Forces survivor of war that was inflicted with a disability a special class does not like be banned from living in NH!

The newspapers are so set that this 100% disabled US Marine is dangerous that my communication to the public is censored.  Using the newspaper to support discrimination is wrong.  Government officials using the trusted power of the people to weed out US Military Veterans is the same as only allowing blonde blue-eyed healthy people to move into Germany?  Free Staters are US Citizens with a different political view than the Democrats or Republicans.   We live in a free society were the imagination to dream and do is every individuals as long as it does not violate the law.  Any law that takes any one right from anyone individual is wrong.

The next step will be for our NH government to want to eliminate any children with mental or physical disabilities.  These children drain our budget and take away from that special class of citizen’s days off.   Maybe that last part will have to wait because I believe it is a subject close to some special citizens in power at this present time.  This is the same norm our civilized society now uses to allow over 600 homeless US Military Veterans living out side on the streets in NH at this very moment.

The Union Leader and all news media will censor letters like this one to protect you from we that came home from war not to your NH standards.  What are we becoming right here in New Hampshire?
