Federal prosecutors have subpoenaed Jeffrey Epstein’s personal pilots as part of their investigation into the financier’s alleged sex-trafficking, The Wall Street Journal reports.
Epstein was earlier this month indicted on sex-trafficking charges, and the Journal reports that his longtime personal pilots were served subpoenas following his July 6 arrest at New Jersey’s Teterboro Airport. Additional details about the subpoenas were not provided, but a lawyer for one of the pilots confirmed the subpoena to the Journal.
Prosecutors have alleged that Epstein, who previously pleaded guilty to state prostitution charges and is a registered sex offender, sexually abused dozens of underage girls between 2002 and 2005, with prosecutors also sayingphotographs of apparently underage girls were found at his mansion. The Journalnotes that the pilots could “provide detail on Mr. Epstein’s travels and his associates,” including by turning over flight logs.
Epstein previously faced a civil suit brought by a woman who alleged the financier sexually abused her, including on his private jet, when she was 15, The Cutreports. Some flight logs were previously published as Epstein faced civil suits, although the Journal reports his accusers’ lawyers alleged the logs were “likely designed to hide evidence of criminal activity.”
Prosecutors have said that associates of Epstein “facilitated his conduct by, among other things, contacting victims and scheduling their sexual encounters with Epstein,” and in a new court filing on Thursday, they said they are investigating “uncharged individuals,” CNBC reports.
