Head of Iran Majlis (parliament) Defense Subcommittee says Tehran has given unofficial warnings to Saudi Arabia over its meddling in the internal affairs of Syria and anti-Iranian stances.

“It is expected that the Saudi regime will consider the consequences of its anti-Iranian actions and acting in line with US policy [in the region], and change their literature with regards to Tehran,” Gholam-Reza Karami-Rad said on Monday.

Referring to Saudi Arabia’s measures against the Syrian government, the lawmaker stated that following the Islamic Revolution in Iran, Riyadh did its best to fill the void created for the US and Israel in the absence of the Pahlavi regime, but failed to play an active role in the region.

“Saudi Arabia’s efforts to change the government in Iraq have failed and Saudis have suffered heavy defeats in Syria and Bahrain. Therefore, the Al Saud [regime] is treating Iran with impudence as a result of these serial failures in the region,” he added.

Karami-Rad said Syria is on the frontline of the anti-Israel struggle and “Iran, along with the Syrian nation will not allow US, Israeli and Saudi plots to be carried out in Syria.”

Syria has been the scene of unrest since mid-March, 2011, with demonstrations being held both against and in support of President Bashar Assad’s government.

The West and the Syrian opposition blame Damascus for the year-long turmoil, but the government says “terrorists” are responsible for the unrest, which it says is being orchestrated from abroad.

Since the beginning of the unrest, Saudi Arabia has played an important part in arming the Syrian terrorist rebels and providing them with other kinds of support.

On February 20, the Syrian President revealed that “some foreign countries” are fueling the turmoil in Syria by supporting and funding “armed terrorist groups fighting against the government.”
