Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad defended his nation’s nuclear program on Monday and said Western morals seeping into the world’s cultures are the real threat.
He made the statements during a tour of West Africa, insisting Iran’s nuclear program was for peaceable purposes, not to build an atomic bomb, as reported in Ynet.
“They accuse Iran, like all nations that seek to rapidly find their way out of the current domination,” Mr. Ahmadinejad said at a stop in Benin, Ynet reported. “We don’t need an atomic bomb … and besides, it is not atomic bombs that threaten the world, but Western morals and culture declining in values.”
Iran long has insisted that its nuclear program is primarily for energy. On Monday, Mr. Ahmadinejad is due to speak in Niger.
