In connection with building the Islamic Community Center near Ground Zero, as the sign says; “Groundless Hatred is the Real Enemy”…
Webster defines “intolerance” as: 1. unable or unwilling to endure. 2. unwilling to grant equality, freedom, or other social rights: Bigoted.
Had the 9/11 attacks been carried-out by extremists of the Catholic, Protestant, Baptist, Methodist or any other denomination of the Christian Religious Faith from the United States or any other Country, there would there be very little opposition, if any, to the building of a Community Center near Ground Zero for any of those Religions?
On the other hand, had the 9/11 attacks been carried-out by extremists of the Hindu, Buddhists, Wicca, Atheists, Scientology or the Jewish Religious Faith from the United States or any other Country, you could be sure that there would be substantial opposition to the building of a Community Center near Ground Zero for any of those Religions?
“Intolerance” has been the reason for all Wars and Genocide throughout history. And whether that “intolerance” is innate or learned, it has plagued mankind since the beginning of mankind, and it will be mankind’s doom.
And although that doom may come from world-wide Terrorist attacks and Wars, and ultimately Nuclear Weapons, it will be because of “intolerance” that all of these things occurred.
So just when it appeared that there might be hope for mankind by the social rights changes made in the 60′s, 70′s and 80′s relating to Gender, Sexual, Racial, and Religious Equality and Freedoms, it unfortunately appears that based on the “intolerance” and the opposition demonstrations for building of the Islamic Community Center in New York near Ground Zero, a Religious Constitutional Right, that “the more things change, the more they stay the same.”
