NOVANEWS
Prospects Services, the big contractor behind the jubilee stewards scandal, also runs an academy school. Badly.
In March inspectors found the firm’s school was “inadequate,” “fragile” and needed further monitoring.
The way this firm can so obviously fail in two areas of public-sector “reform” raises questions both over Prospects Services and the government’s wide-ranging business-oriented “reform” agenda.

United action sees off academy plans in South Tyneside
UNISON has welcomed a decision by governors at South Tyneside’s Boldon School to reject academy status.
UNISON members at the school stood shoulder to shoulder with colleagues in teaching unions NASUWT and the NUT, as well as the South Tyneside Public Services Alliance, to see off an attempt to turn the school into an academy. After a decisive ballot result, the joint unions had a mandate for sustained strike action in protest at plans to give the school academy status. And they staged a protest outside the school to publicise their campaign.
The joint unions then made a presentation to the school governors last night and presented them with the facts they needed to convince them not to proceed with the consultation process.

Strikes against Academies
Kimberley
Trade unionists and students joined striking teachers on vibrant NUT pickets at Kimberley School in Broxtowe, Nottinghamshire.
Over 30 people packed on to the picket lines on each day of the strike action, including local Labour Councillors. Members of Unison and other trade unions joined the picket lines in solidarity and support from the passing public was tremendous.
