According to a Saudi journalist, Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah is ‘clinically dead’, with vital organ failure. The journalist quoted Saudi medical sources, who claim that his vital organs have stopped functioning, and he is barely alive on a form of life support.
What we know for sure is, the king has not recently appeared in public for quite some time, and the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia has been speaking on his behalf. The Royal Court of Saudi Arabia has yet to comment. So what are the geopolitical implications of this?
It is important to note, that Saudi Arabia is arguably the world’s most important supplier of oil, and the unique and complicated Saudi succession traditions have set the stage for a crisis that could destabilize the region. With civil war in Syria, the Shia, and the events that have unfolded in Egypt and across the Middle East, it seems rebellion is in the air. The current heir to the throne is Crown Prince Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, also the Minister of Defense of Saudi Arabia. However, he is 77 years old, has already suffered a recent stroke and spinal surgery, and many experts agree that he is suffering from dementia.
This absolute monarchy system will make a 77 year old, ill, potentially demented man the king of Saudi Arabia, a fundamentally important cog in the global economy. So now the question is, if King Abdullah is indeed dead, and Crown Prince Salman becomes king, will he disrupt the delicate balance Saudi Arabia holds now?
And after he dies, which may not be very far off, who will be left? There is only one more person who can become king after Salman who is knowing enough to preserve Saudi Arabia’s balance, his name is Muqrin, and he is 67 years old.
The sediment to take from this is, the Saudi Absolute Monarchy system is broken, and allowing these 2 old men to become king after King Abdullah, is only a temporary solution. After they die, if they don’t already disrupt Saudi Arabia’s balance or effect the world economy and oil exports, there will be little to no knowledgable people left to be king. Revolution is in the air, and has already swept across Egypt, Libya, and Syria, surrounding Saudi Arabia, so a succession crisis could not come at a worse time.
The tangled, broken machinery of this absolute government was built to eventually be destroyed, and a crisis like this could easily spread revolution across the Middle East, and disrupt entire economic systems. So when the US government wants citizens to participate in war, murdering rebellious Middle Eastern people, or whatever it is, you can find out the true nature of the issue before you believe what they say.
With the nearly endless knowledge at the tips of our fingers, the Internet, humanity has the capacity to solve a crisis and restore order, without an all powerful monarchy or absolute dictatorship, like never before.
