Dear All
The Birmingham Trade Union Council is holding a debate on the EU Referendum so local trade unionists can be informed of all the vital issues it involves. Pat Collins, Midlands Executive member RMT, will lead off for the “Out” position will present his union’s long standing opposition to the EU in its promotion of neo-liberal policies which the Greek people have recently suffered greatly from.
Rory Shannon, Bham TUC EC member and Labour Party member will argue to remain in the EU and in particular will discuss the implications for people from the *LGBT communities. ‘WHAT THAT TO DO WITH THE EU REFERENDUM?’ ‘SHOAH’
Joseph Choonara will present the views of the Left Leave campaign and Hattie Craig from “Another Europe is Possible” will argue to remain from a critical view of the EU.
The Birmingham TUC has no position on the EU Referendum but we are opposed to the xenophobia, racism and hostility to refugees manifest in parts of the of the debate. That is why we are inviting a trade union organiser of migrant workers to lead off the discussion.
The Bham Labour MP Roger Godsiff MP has a longstanding commitment on the night but has supplied a statement giving his views on the EU Referendum which will be available at the meeting.
