We had a table for 7 booked for 9.30pm. We pitched up about 5 mins early, told the table wasn’t ready (which we expected) and ordered some drinks. The guy behind the bar was pretty busy with drinks orders and apologised for the delay in getting to us to give us driinks. One of the glasses they gave us needed replacing as it had a crack in it and subsequently broke under some pressure
By 9.45pm, we complained to one of the staff that our table wasn’t ready, after all, we had booked. We were told everyone was in the same boat, there was nothing he could do about it. Our response was that if you know you have a table booked you don’t accept someone else to come on in. The manner in which we were addressed by the staff was somewhat rude, as if we were causing the problem for them.
We finally got seated at 10.05pm at a small table, certainly not big enough for 7 people. After taking our order and 2 attempts at getting the right number of poppadoms, we got our food. The plate given to one of us was dirty and needed replacing, and the waiters were laughing about the lack of space for all the food. One of us needed to put the small bit of salad behind their head, and empty rice dishes went on the floor.
Whilst eating one of the curries, one of us pulled a hair out of the curry. It was too short for the person eating it, but certainly longer than either of the people sitting next to her. It was also unlikely it was one of the chefs’ – but it had certainly come from somewhere. This caused more complaining and the lack of apologies from the manager led us to say that we wouldn’t be coming back again. He then flipped his lid and told us that if we weren’t coming back again we should leave now and they’d never take our booking again.
The way in which we were treated was completely unacceptable, at no time was an apology offered than other for the drinks at the start. The staff felt the situation was humourous and the manager felt we were delibrately trying to cause trouble. If they’d have simply replaced the hairy curry and apologised no one would’ve really had any problems.
