assassinating the resistance: PFLP fighters survive attack

Today, the Israeli military attempted a targeted killing of three “militants” (freedom fighters) from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. The main target was apparently Ahmad al-Ashkar. The Israeli military hasbara spokeswoman said, “The organization was planning attacks against Israel in the coming days.”
Does anyone really believe that these three PFLP members were “planning” an incipient attack against “Israel,” or that Israel is justified in attempting to assassinate them while its blockade constitutes an ongoing act of mass terror against the population of the Gaza Strip? Will we see condemnation of this attack from any quarter? Just from the PFLP, probably, and perhaps obliquely from Ma’an News. It’s true that the three militants escaped with light injuries and were not killed, but that isn’t the point. The point is intent, and the intent was assassination and the crushing of resistance.
So I ask my comrades David Samel and Ahmed Moor who rushed to condemn the killings of four paramilitary settlers in Hebron: where’s the condemnation of this attack? Will it be forthcoming? Or was the rush to condemn merely positioning with respect to racist consumers of our own writings? Surely trying to assassinate three resistance fighters is a far more disgusting act in intent, more clean-cut and odious, than the killing of four paramilitary settlers at the hands of a population that those settlers, particularly those near Hebron, have been torturing and imprisoning for decades, right?
No, no one will be called upon to condemn this attack; there will be no loyalty tests about “condemning” attacks against the innocent (or the less-guilty); there will no categorical assertions about how it is wrong to try to murder freedom fighters; how attempted assassinations are despicable. Hillary Clinton won’t be perorating about attempted targeted killings, the foot-pump that tries to accelerate the spinning-wheel of violence. There won’t be any nuanced, perceptive commentary about how Israeli murders of Palestinians are both in effect and in intent murders of Israelis because they are undertaken with the expectation of reprisals.
No, there won’t be any hand-wringing about the precise moral coordinates of an attempted killing of PFLP muqawama, or fine-grained discerning of their exact moral positioning vis-a-vis Gazan civilians . There will be no attempt to look at the way Palestinians themselves understand their own violence, nor any assertions of the absolute inviolability of the right to resistance in all its forms.
There will simply be silence, speaking cacophonously to the institutionalized racism of Israeli and Western culture, and proving the absurd hypocrisy of the hyenas who rush to condemn the violence of their victims.
