I am just emerging from the editing room where we’ve wrapped up production on Just Vision’s latest short film series, Home Front: Portraits from Sheikh Jarrah, directed by Rebekah Wingert-Jabi.
These 8-minute portraits tell the stories of two Palestinians and two Israelis who are part of a powerful nonviolent campaign in East Jerusalem.
In 2008, Israeli settlers began evicting Palestinian residents in the neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah from their homes. In response, a growing number of Israeli supporters have joined residents in their ongoing struggle to return to their homes and prevent further evictions.
Home Front follows a Palestinian teenager whose family was forced to share their home with settlers, an American-born Israeli mother who gets drawn into the protests when her children are arrested, a Palestinian community organizer who spearheads the involvement of local women in the movement, and a former Israeli soldier who becomes one of the leading figures in the demonstrations.
The situation in East Jerusalem is heating up, with more Palestinian families facing evictions and tensions mounting between residents and settlers. Before Jerusalem reaches the point of no return, you can help by channeling attention to these peaceful efforts to keep people in their homes and to build a shared future in this contested city.
Join us in sharing Home Front widely with bloggers, journalists, clergy and of course with family, friends and colleagues.
Warm regards,
Julia
