Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili says the US seeks a prolonged presence in the region through creating chaos.
“The stability and security seen in Iran today are the outcome of the deep relationship between the nation and the establishment of the Islamic Republic,” Jalili said, pointing to the 30 years of US hostility towards Iran.
In a meeting with the visiting Chairman of Pakistan’s Senate Farooq H Naik in Tehran on Thursday, Jalili said that it is necessary for the two countries to prepare a comprehensive plan for bilateral cooperation at regional and international levels.
“Given the different potentials of Iran and Pakistan, both countries can play effective roles in regional affairs,” he added.
Naik, for his part, said that both Iran and Pakistan could help resolve regional and international issues.
Earlier on Thursday, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi met with Naik. The two officials stressed the importance of realizing the potentials of both countries to increase trade.
Naik met with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Thursday.
