ULT expands Academy empireThe United Learning Trust was told to stop expanding its empire after Ofsted branded its 2 Sheffield Academies ‘inadequate’. Yet this week ULT have been allowed to take over another Academy chain, the Emmanuel Schools Foundation Academies. The addition of these 4 schools take it to 21 secondary schools.
This is the beginning of the process that most people who campaign against Academies have predicted – the growth of monopoly education providers. ULT is now larger than many local authorities.
Some important questions need to be asked about this:
How can ULT, which was told by the government to stop expanding its empire after it’s 2 Academies in Sheffield were branded inadequate by Ofsted, be allowed to continue to expand?
When a school changes proprietor – do staff, parents or pupils have a say, or are they simply part of the furnishings?
Has any money changed hands?
ULT will now make some savings on economies of scale. Will any staff lose jobs at Emmanuel? Will all money be ploughed back into education?
In the future will all companies plough all money back in?
How can the Anti Academies Alliance help your school?
In the last few weeks a number of schools have approached us to help them campaign against Academy proposals that are being pushed on them.
The Anti Academies Alliance is happy to work with head teachers, governors, parents and staff to develop a campaign to prevent your school becoming an Academy.
