NOVANEWS
Akiva Eldar has been writing again blaming the Israeli right for the abandonment of the two-state “solution.” He writes about Dennis Ross that “For years he has been nurturing the myth that if the United States would only meet his exact specifications, the Israeli right would offer the Arabs extensive concessions.” It’s interesting to watch the absurd contortions people will go through to avoid understanding the settlement project, and in turn to keep us dumb about it as well.
The settlement project started under Labor governments after a Labor-started war. It metastasized after the Labor managed economy proved incapable of painting over Israeli social fractures. And it continued because Labor’s constituency lacked the political vision to end it and the political foresight to try to ram through something better than the Oslo Accords, a lack of political vision totally clear in Eldar’s bizarre passing on the buck to Dennis Ross, and as though Oslo envisioned justice and not a racist resolution-by-force of the conflict, and as though the settlement project were conceived by AIPAC.
