Syrian women have been filmed burning a niqab (face veil) after escaping from Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) territory.
One of the women, who was wearing a red hijab, shouts anti-ISIS slogans to the crowd which responds with hearty “amens.”
“May Allah burn ISIS like they burned us and oppressed us,” she declaims.
“May Allah burn them in the fires of hell and the fires of the devil (AMEN!) Allah will help the victorious and take away the Jews (AMEN!)”
The addition of the anti-Semitic comment at the end is interesting because it shows how deeply embedded anti-Semitism is in Arabic society, even at the joyous moment of liberation from the tyranny of the Islamic State, she takes the time to damn the Jews.
The video is otherwise encouraging, showing the passion of the opposition to the forced wearing of the niqab among otherwise religious Muslims and the hatred harbored towards the Islamic State from those living under its brutal rule.
