Are new details about the fate of navigator Ron Arad, who was captured by “Amal” organization in Lebanon 27 years ago about to come to light? Kuwaiti newspaper “Al-Seyassah” reports today (Wednesday) quoting intelligence sources in the west, of a deal formulating between Iran and a western intelligence outfit, according to which the information about Ron Arad’s fate will be given in exchange for information on the fate of 4 Iranian diplomats who disappeared near Beirut during the civil war in Lebanon in 1982.
According to the report in the newspaper, the information will reveal whether Arad and the four Iranians are still alive, and if not – their place of burial will be revealed. The report quotes western intelligence sources that claim that the significant progress on the road to solving the mystery is a result of new information on Ron Arad that reached a western intelligence outfit.
From the report it appears that the new information was given by Husain Musawi, the brother of one of the missing Iranians. Musawi served as advisor to the Iranian Foreign Minister for Middle Eastern matters and the Arab world at the time when Arab was being held by the Shiite militias in Lebanon, and as such is considered one of the few people who might know his fate.
Fear that the information is not precise
The report says that the information that Musawi, who serves today as the director of the Center for Scientific Research and Middle East Strategy in Iran, has reached intelligence in the west through several middlemen. The information was verified after being looked into thoroughly, and this despite of the fear that Musawi gave inaccurate information in order to discover his brother’s fate.
“Al-Seyassah” further reported that the western intelligence agency intends to hand over sensitive information on the fate of the four Iranians, information that was obtained following intelligence gathering in Lebanon in the 80s. According to the report, the information has not been exposed so far in order to protect the organization’s sources, but the death of one of the senior sources in Lebanon has paved the way for the use of the information.
According to the newspaper, the western sources stressed that what made the deal possible is Iran’s recent attitude towards the west, which has brought it closer to it. Now the sides are discussing the best way to strike a deal between Israel and Iran, which would answer both sides’ needs. The four Iranian diplomats were taken in July of 1982 on the Beirut-Damascus road. Despite reports that they were murdered in Lebanon, the Iranians claim that in 1990 they were moved to Israel alive.
