A Netanya resident was recently arrested on suspicion of stabbing a Palestinian construction worker due to nationalist motives, it was revealed Wednesday, after the Netanya Magistrates Court lifted a gag order on the case.
Police arrested the 23-year-old Netanya man two weeks ago after the Palestinian was found stabbed in the chest at a Netanya construction site.
Police forces that arrived at the scene of the crime began searching for the assailant, and suspicions arose that the incident had nationalist grounds. Consequently, the investigation was handed over to the Shin Bet and a gag order was put on the case.
The suspect claimed the act was not driven by nationalist motives but because the Palestinian was “staring at his sister.”
The suspect was arrested four days after the incident, while the investigation team waited until the victim recovered in order to give his testimony. Police’s suspicions that the incident was driven by nationalist motives strengthened following the victim’s investigation at Netanya’s Laniado Hospital, and the case was handed over to the prosecution for an indictment.
