In his latest piece, Philip Giraldi notes:

There is also a seldom remarked upon secondary agenda for the neoconservatives as related to freedom for the Arab world. As in the case of Iraq, many neocons would prefer to see democratic Arab nations that are divided by internal divisions and therefore not strong enough to challenge Israel rather than headed by dictators like Saddam Hussein who are hostile. Developments in Eastern Europe over the past twenty years have revealed clearly that democracy does not necessarily bring with it unity of purpose or political cohesion, quite the contrary. Small, weak, divided Arab states encumbered by a number of squabbling political parties work well for Israel and for its neocon friends.

The only quibble I would have with Giraldi’s observation is that the dissolution of the Arab world, as recommended in the 1980s by Israeli strategist Oded Yinon, may in fact be the primary agenda for the neocons. In this respect, it’s worth noting Elliott Abrams’ recent comment that “Libya as a country is a relatively new concept.” And the Libyan rebels, with more than a little help from their Israel-friendly Western protectors, may bring an end to this “relatively new concept” much to the delight of Abrams and his ilk.

  1. Not only Libya, but All the “Arab states” and “Arab nations” are a relatively new concept – only 100 years ago there was no Iraq, no Syria, no Jorden, and no Palestine either…
If we remember that not so long ago there were only Arabs and other Muslims and non-Muslims living on the huge area occupied by the Arabs&Muslims not so long ago, then we may ask ourselves: Why can’t those Arabs give-up such a tiny land like the ancient land of Israel – which is less then 1% of the lands the Arabs have – and why couldn’t they absorb theier fellow Arabs from Palestine in their huge countries, which are rich in both territories and natural resources, and give them equal citizenship – despite the fact that they are Arabs just like them, who speak and write the same language, and who believe in the same religion, and who like the same music, and who have the same culture? Aren’t the “Palestinian people” an artificial invention just like “the Jordanian people” or “the Iraqi people” or “the Syrian people” or “the Libyan people”? Is this not an artificial invention that was aimed against Israel – but in practice it hurted mostly those Arabs “Palestinians” who were left isolated and deprived in the countries of their Arab brothers?
