A Border Policeman was arrested Monday in the fatal shooting of his wife. According to initial reports, the 48-year-old officer, who serves in Israel’s Central District, used his weapon to shoot his wife in the upper body several times during a heated argument in their Bat Yam home.
The suspect reportedly called police and rescue units immediately after he shot his wife. Efforts by Magen David Adom paramedics to resuscitate her were unsuccessful.
This is the second such incident in recent weeks. On September 20, Mordechai Chai, 60, was arrested on suspicion of stabbing his wife to death in their Herzliya apartment. Chai was already convicted of murdering his first wife in 1991, but after he was sentenced, the Prison Service determined Chai to be mentally unstable and decided he should serve his time in Abarbanel’s psychiatric hospital.
In another incident in Bat Yam on Monday, a 30-year old woman was found dead in her apartment on Bar Ilan street. Police called in her husband for questioning, but the cause of her death is still unclear.
