In an exclusive report published on Sunday, The Daily Beast said it obtained a recording of remarks made by Kerry during a closed-door meeting last week in which he lashed out against Israel’s illegal settlement-building activities and warned that Israel could become “an apartheid state” if it fails to achieve a peace deal with the Palestinian Authority.
AIPAC, which is the most powerful pro-Israel lobby group in the US, was quick to react to the report, describing Kerry’s remarks as “deeply troubling” while saying any “suggestion that Israel is, or is at risk of becoming, an apartheid state is offensive and inappropriate.”
“This latest exchange between the American Israel Public Affairs Committee and John Kerry is indicative of the stranglehold the Israeli lobbyists have had on the foreign policy of the United States since the end of World War II,” said Mark Dankof in a phone interview with Press TV on Thursday.
“The American Israel Public Affairs Committee is representing a foreign power, it is an agent of a foreign power, it should be treated as such by the people of the United States and the government of the United States,” he added.
Explaining about the connections between AIPAC and some US officials, Dankof said the American people should “understand that the American Israel Public Affairs Committee is the agent of a foreign power and that the interests that it has are not the interests of average America.”
