Lebanese businessman Qassem Taj Al-Din, who is held in American prisons, will be in Lebanon in less than a month, although his sentence has not ended. This was confirmed by a Lebanese security reference to Al-Akhbar, confirming that the release of Taj Al-Din is linked to the conditions of Corona, which constitute a threat to his life, given that he is 65 years old.
The aforementioned authority denied all reports about the existence of any deal linking the release of Taj al-Din with the release of Nizar Zakka, who was convicted by the Iranian judiciary of spying for the American intelligence service, or the Zionist agent Amer al-Fakhouri from Lebanon. He emphasized that the defense agents of Taj al-Din submitted a petition for consideration of his health. The sources indicated that Taj al-Din is one of hundreds of cases in which the American judiciary agreed to reduce the length of their owners ’sentences due to the Corona epidemic that threatens their lives, knowing that the Lebanese businessman was arrested in March 2017, and was sentenced to 5 years in prison.
The Tajuddin family revealed that American Judge Reggie Walton agreed on May 27 to release Qasim Tajuddin on humanitarian grounds, due to Corona’s risks to his life if he remained in prison.
It should be noted that Taj al-Din was sentenced to five years imprisonment and a fine of 50 million US dollars, after his defense agents concluded an agreement with the public prosecutor stipulating that he confessed exclusively to the “crime of defrauding the US Penal Code” for buying goods from American companies.
Despite US accusations of him being involved in terrorist financing and describing him by Western, Arab and Lebanese media as Hezbollah’s finance minister, the US Attorney General failed to provide any evidence for the accuracy of his allegations. Nevertheless, many media outlets still describe him as the suspect with Hezbollah funding.
