“The US policy here is to ride on the wave of popular revolutions [in Arab countries] and to appropriate the revolts for [US] gains,” said Roknabadi in a Friday meeting with Head of Lebanese People’s Movement Najah Wakim.
He added that the US seeks to “cause rifts and unrest in countries which lack the necessary conditions for a revolutionary move,” Mehr News Agency reported.
Roknabadi said the popular uprisings would be in favor of the resistance movement in the region.
The Lebanese politician, for his part, expressed solidarity with the Islamic Republic for its resistance against the political propaganda by certain regional and foreign states and appreciated Iran’s support for the common goals of regional nations.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has always been under political attacks and propaganda by enemies. But such attacks are indicative of Iran’s right stance,” Wakim said.
During the meeting, the two officials exchanged views on the latest developments in the region and the popular uprisings in the Arab countries.
In recent months, a wave of revolutions and anti-government uprisings has swept the Arab world.
In January, a revolution in Tunisia ended the 23-year ruling of former president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.
In February, another Arab revolution led to the ouster of former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak after three decades of authoritarian rule.
Other revolutions are erupting in Libya, Yemen and Bahrain, while anti-government unrests have swept Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Oman, Kuwait and Algeria.
