Israeli solidarity activist interrogated by police for “incitement”

Sara Benninga, whose speech I reposted here on the blog, was interrogated by the

police after speaking at the JStreet conference I attended. She provided one of the

voices for a new direction for Jewish and Israeli activists working alongside Palest-

inians for justice. For this she rewarded with an interrogation.

From Didi Remez’s facebook page:

Sara was interrogated for “incitement” because she made a call for

solidaritywith the #Jan25 protesters at Tahrir sq. She was also que-

stioned on “subversion” because she dared chant “settlers, thieves”.

I kid you not. I’ll update if there are indictment.

At the same JStreet conference, lawyer Michael Sfard of Yesh Din reminded

us that there are:

hundreds of Palestinians arrested every week for nonviolent protest,

and now the same criminalization has spread to Jewish Israelis. I am struck

by the courage of the people who stand up to the theft of settlers when Barack

Obama won’t, and how sad that the sincere solidarity people around the world

felt for the Egyptian protesters is now apparently a crime.
