FSA, Israeli officials to participate in symposium in DC

Free Syrian Army commanders will participate on Friday in a symposium, organized through the contributions of the Israeli lobby, in Washington DC alongside Israeli officials.

Commanders of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and high Israeli officials will participate in the Washington Institute’s annual 2013 Soref Symposium which is set to take place May 9 at the Ritz-Carlton in Washington, D.C.
In the opening speech, Israeli Minister of Justice Tzipi Livni will remark on “Israel’s New Government and the Challenge of Peacemaking with the Palestinians.”
Later at 2:30 p.m., Anwar Esmad El Sadat, founder and chairman of the El Sadat Association for Social Development and Welfare will participate in a discussion on “Egypt’s Revolution, Two Years On: Transition in Distress?”
At 4 p.m., Col. Abdul Hamid Zakaria, commander and spokesman for the Free Syrian Army, and Col. Abdul Jabbar Akidi, Free Syrian Army commander and head of the Revolutionary Military Council in Aleppo, will participate in a breakout discussion on “Inside Syria: The Battle Against Assad’s Regime.” The session will be closed to the press.
Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel will conclude at 7 p.m. with remarks on “U.S. Defense Policy in the Middle East.”
Dennis Ross, former senior Middle East adviser to four presidents and counselor at WINEP, will serve as moderator.
The speeches of Tzipi Livni, Enver Esmad El Sedat and Chuck Hagel will be available live on the Washington Institute’s official site.
The symposium will be conducted through the contributions of the Israeli lobby in the US. Top Israeli officials are expected to participate.
