Bosses at the FBI are worried about a different kind of “undercover work.”
The Federal Bureau of Investigation — which touts an agency motto of “fidelity, bravery, integrity” — is battling a sexting scandal. A newly issued report finds its workers have been involved in a “rash of sexting cases” using government-issued devices.
“We’re hoping that getting the message out in the quarterlies is going to teach people, as well as their supervisors … you can’t do this stuff,” said FBI Assistant Director Candice Will, in a CNN report. “When you are given an FBI BlackBerry, it’s for official use. It’s not to text the woman in another office who you found attractive or to send a picture of yourself in a state of undress.”
The report, which was distributed within FBI offices as a means of shaming employees into policy compliance, spoke of sexting instances of sending naked photos and of paying for sex in a massage parlor, CNN reports.
Between 2010 and 2012, the FBI has fired 85 employees for various disciplinary violations, CNN reports.
