BasNews (Erbil):
Kurdish prime minister Nechirvan Barzani will visit Iraq’s capital Baghdad, in an attempt to solve the long-standing dispute regarding oil.
During a cabinet meeting, Barzani revealed that he will be visiting Baghdad in order to give further details regarding the Kurdish-Turkish independent pipelines.
“I will be visiting Baghdad to talk about the project. I will try to explain it in more detail and hopefully reach an understanding, in a way that can benefit all Iraqis,” said Barzani said.
This week, Barzani and the Kurdistan Regional Government Minister of Natural Resources, Ashti Hawrami, revealed that Kurds would soon export oil to Turkey through the new pipelines.
“Technical teams from both sides see each other on a daily basis in order to finish the project. The oil export will begin shortly,” said Barzani.
There have been disagreements between Baghdad and Erbil on the issue of oil and gas. The Iraqi government does not approve of the Kurds exporting oil to Turkey without Baghdad’s approval.
According to media reports, Turkey’s Energy Minister, Taner Yaldiz, said there are ways of solving the oil dispute with Iraq’s central government, such as the blocking of oil revenues in a state bank, and Turkey sending each transaction to Baghdad. The revenues are then to be shared between the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government.
