How Should The West Engage With the Muslim World?

Opening Remarks at a Dialogue With Islam.

by David Swanson

I want to thank Shahinoor Ali and Dialoguewithislam.orgfor inviting me and I’m honored to speak together with Dr. Azzam Tamami.

I don’t know about the West, but I have some thoughts on the United States.  I recently flew from California to Washington, D.C., and when the plane landed, the pilot came on the intercom to tell everyone to celebrate: our government had killed Osama bin Laden. This was better than winning the Super Bowl, he said.

Set aside for a moment the morality of cheering for the killing of a human being — which despite the pilot’s prompting nobody on the plane did. In purely Realpolitik terms, killing prominent individuals whom we’ve previously supported has never resolved anything.

Our killing of Saddam Hussein has been followed by years of war and hundreds of thousands of pointless deaths. Our attempts to kill Muammar Gadaffi have killed his children and grandchildren and will end no war if they eventually succeed. Our attempts to kill Osama bin Laden, including wars justified by that mission, have involved nearly a decade of senseless slaughter in Afghanistan and the rest of the ongoing global “generational” war that is consuming my country while destroying others.

A decade ago the automatic assumption would not have been that there could be no dissenters to celebrating a killing. A decade ago torture was considered irredeemably evil. A decade ago we believed people should have fair trials before they are declared guilty or killed. A decade ago, if a president had announced his new power to assassinate Americans, at least a few people would have asked where in the world he got the power to assassinate non-Americans.  Dan Ellsberg who leaked the Pentagon Papers, evidence of Vietnam War lies, 40 years ago, recently remarked that everything President Nixon did to him has now been legalized: breaking and entering, warrentless searches, assassination attempts, etc.  U.S. television tells us that people in the nations we bomb and occupy hate us for our freedoms, but our freedoms don’t rank very high anymore in international comparisons, and meanwhile we see Arabs taking nonviolent risks for freedom that we haven’t taken in decades.  It’s quite confusing.

Reports eventually made clear that bin Laden’s killers had been ordered to kill, not capture.  But some of us knew that before being told.  Capturing bin Laden would have meant imprisoning him somewhere, but where?  Bagram would have called attention to the other 1,700 people lawlessly locked up there.  Guantanamo would have alerted deluded Americans that the place still exists.  And U.S. soil would have resulted in numerous heart attacks brought on by fear.  A mock trial would have been condemned around the world.  A fair trial would have called into question why so many lesser alleged criminals aren’t being given trials at all.  It could also have given bin Laden a platform to air his grievances, dredged up the history of U.S. support for bin Laden in the 1980s, or even resulted in acquittal for one reason or another.  I was on a radio show on which a former CIA officer explained to me that killing was cleaner than capturing.  And of course, the United States kills people with drones rather than bullets all the time now, which seems to disturb Americans less than stories of torture.

But the torture of recent years served the purpose of dehumanizing Muslims and Arabs in the minds of Americans.  Surely our government would not treat people like animals if it didn’t have to.  While the United States is ten times as violent a place to live as a nation like Egypt, Americans are told that Islam breeds violence.  Sixty-nine percent of Americans say they would tolerate a mosque in their neighborhood.  Muslims are only about 1 percent of Americans.  But 61 percent of Americans say there should not be a mosque near the site of the World Trade Center in New York. Only 53 percent of Americans believe that American Muslims support the United States.  Twenty-eight percent of Americans believe that all Muslims are sympathetic to al Qaeda.  And 52 percent of Americans thought it was a good idea recently to hold hearings in Congress on the danger posed by the existence of Muslims.

The problem that Americans have with Muslims is not their religiosity.  In contrast to Europe, the United States is an extremely religious place.  Forty-six percent of Americans, including a number of Congress members, want our laws based at least in part on the Christian Bible.  Three quarters of the people in the United States believe in heaven and angels, while less than half think life forms evolve.  The leading tool for inspiring fear prior to Muslim terrorism was Soviet atheists.  While 34 percent of Americans would not want their child to marry a Muslim and 45 percent would be less likely to vote for a Muslim for president, for atheists those numbers are 48 and 50.  There are two Muslims in Congress and one atheist.  Of course it is not clear everyone in the United States knows the difference between a Muslim and an atheist, and apparently some 20 percent of Americans believe the current U.S. president is a Muslim.

Our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have garnered support in the United States because of their potential for killing Muslims AND because of the humanitarian good they supposedly do those poor Muslims whether they wanted it or not.  Our war propaganda turns against a religion, just as it turns against a dictator, when the real motives make that desirable.  President Eisenhower approved a half million dollars to study the revival of a railway to get more pilgrims to Mecca and Medina.  For decades Islam was valuable for its anti-Soviet potential.  Islam became the enemy when war fever was needed and the Soviet Union was gone.  Americans have no idea why anyone would resent their nation.  The war death counts in our newspapers leave out 95 percent of the dead.  So blaming irrational inexplicable resentment on a religion comes in handy.

I would like to see the United States engage with the Muslim world through young people rather than bombs and bases.  Student exchange programs would open more eyes than anything else we could do.  Plus, the presence of U.S. students in a country would reduce the likelihood of drone strikes there.

The United States should stop funding and arming dictators, not when they’ve been toppled or when we’ve found a candidate to replace them, but across the board, all of them.  We should invest in nonviolent activists.  They cost a lot less than dictators or wars, are far more effective, and cause dramatically less collateral damage.  We should cancel international debts, stop loaning more, and stop imposing terms.  We should instead give money by giving money.  We should give it to popular nonviolent democratic movements and governments.  And if popular governments lacking loyalty to the United States’ military ask for our bases and fleets to leave, we should beat them to it and already be gone.

WMD Scientist, Dr. David Kelly, Suicide Coverup

NOVANEWS

Attorney general rules against Dr David Kelly inquest

BBC REPORT

The attorney general has rejected calls for an inquest into the death in 2003 of government scientist Dr David Kelly.

Dominic Grieve said the evidence Dr Kelly killed himself was “overwhelming” and rejected claims of a “cover-up”.

Dr Kelly was found dead after he was exposed as the source of a BBC story which led to a row with the then Labour government over Iraq intelligence.

But a group of doctors say the subsequent Hutton inquiry ruling that he committed suicide was “unsafe”.

Campaigners’ questions

  • Why no fingerprints were found on the knife apparently used to slit Dr Kelly’s wrist

  • How he obtained a packet of coproxamol painkillers

  • Why his blood and stomach contained only a non-toxic dose of the drug

  • Why he was not spotted by a police helicopter with thermal imaging cameras which flew over the wood where his body was later found

  • Whether he intended to kill himself

Dr Kelly’s body was found in woods near his home in Oxfordshire, after he was exposed as the source of a controversial BBC report casting doubt on the government’s claim that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction capable of being fired within 45 minutes.

An inquest was opened but was then suspended – when the Hutton Inquiry was set up to look into the circumstances of his death.

A group of doctors have mounted a long-running campaign for the inquest to be re-opened, claiming the evidence did not point to suicide

But Mr Grieve said his department had thoroughly investigated their complaints and could not find any legal basis for referring the case to the High Court, which has the legal authority to order an inquest.

Mr Grieve told MPs: “Having given all the material that’s been sent to me the most careful consideration, I’ve concluded that the evidence that Dr Kelly took his own life is overwhelmingly strong.

“Further, there is nothing I’ve seen that supports any allegation that Dr Kelly was murdered or that his death was the subject of any kind of conspiracy or cover up.”

‘Outraged’

There had to be some “evidential basis” to refer a case to the High Court, he told MPs, but in this case there was none and it would have been “dismissed” by judges “with what I would assume would be a certain amount of irritation”.

He said the Hutton inquiry, which ruled the scientist had committed suicide, was “tantamount to an inquest” and there was not sufficient evidence to warrant a further hearing.

His department has published full medical and pathology reports on Dr Kelly’s death, as well as Mr Grieve’s statement on why he has decided not to refer the matter to the High Court.

Lord Hutton’s report in 2004 concluded that Dr Kelly had killed himself by cutting an artery in his wrist but a group of doctors has since argued there was insufficient evidence to prove beyond reasonable doubt he killed himself.

But Mr Grieve said while they were “undoubtedly expert in their own areas of practice” they were not qualified as forensic pathologists.

He said “much had been made” of the position in which Dr Kelly’s body was found – as while most witnesses had said he was found lying down on his back, two had told the Hutton inquiry the body was propped up against a tree.

Mr Grieve said witnesses could sometimes recall the same scene differently – and in fact one of the two had earlier told the police Dr Kelly had been found on his back. From that “minor contradiction” questions began to be asked about why the body had been moved, he said.

“This issue has proven a fertile ground for imaginative speculation to take over. In fact, all the evidence provided by the very careful forensic examination of the scene at the time … supports the view that Dr Kelly died where he was found and from the causes determined.”

Asked if his statement would put a stop to conspiracy theories, which one MP claimed were being fuelled by former members of the security services, Mr Grieve said: “The evidence overwhelmingly shows Dr Kelly committed suicide. He wasn’t killed by anybody.”

‘Concerted cover-up’

Mr Grieve offered his “sincere sympathy” to Dr Kelly’s family adding: “While I realise that it will always be impossible to satisfy everyone, I would hope for their sakes that a line can now be drawn under this matter.”

But the doctors campaigning for an inquest said they were “perplexed and outraged” with the decision.

They have argued that the official cause of death, a haemorrhage, was “extremely unlikely” – arguing that the wound found to Dr Kelly’s wrist was unlikely to be life-threatening and questioning the lack of fingerprints recovered from the knife and a pack of pills Dr Kelly apparently took.

A statement issued by their leader, Dr Stephen Frost, accused the government of being “complicit in a determined and concerted cover-up”.

He said Mr Grieve should resign adding: “The continuing cover-up of the truth of what happened is a national disgrace and should be of concern to all British citizens.”

The group will now seek to take the decision to judicial review. Dr Frost added: “A proper inquest into the suspicious death of any British citizen is required by the laws of this country.

“It is highly regrettable that Dominic Grieve has sought, as did the coroner Nicholas Gardiner before him, to rubber-stamp the clear subversion of due process of the law that the derailing of the inquest by Lord Falconer on August 13, 2003 constituted.”

Ofergate: The Latest Zionist Propaganda Blitz

NOVANEWS

The Islamic
Republic

of Iran is once
again being
assaulted

by Zionism’s
propaganda
machine.
by Jonathan Azaziah
From the
moment that the Islamic Revolution of Ayatollah Sayyed Ruhollah Khomeini and
tens of millions of Iranians toppled the Israeli-US-UK-backed Shah and defeated
the CIA’s counterrevolution, there has been a sustained campaign of violence,
propaganda and subversion against the Islamic Republic of Iran. This campaign,
naturally, has been led by the Zionist entity with crucial support being
provided by America, Britain and a handful of strategically installed Arab
dictators.
It began on September 22, 1980 when Saddam Hussein invaded
Iran at the behest of the Zionist Power Configuration in Washington, initiating
the genocidal Iran-Iraq War. Over one million Iranians were slaughtered and more
than 400,000 Iraqis were murdered in the Western-backed war of aggression on the
revolutionary Iranian nation. The war was designed by an
Israeli-American-Saudi-Kuwaiti axis, in an attempt to depict Persian Iran as the
enemy of the Arabs, protect US-Zionist oil interests (1), crush the Islamic
Revolution and of course, to replant a Shah-like dictator friendly to Zionism
and the West. Saddam was bankrolled by the House of Saud to the tune of half a
billion dollars during the war and received critical intelligence support as
well as assistance in piloting missiles against Iranian targets from the
usurping Israeli entity’s Mossad (2).
As the war dragged on and the
civilian body count continued to rise, the Zionist media introduced its most
prolific lie: the story of Israel providing advisors for and selling weapons to
Iran during its war with Iraq in the amount of $500 million. The Islamic
Revolution repeatedly and vehemently denied the story as Zionist propaganda
aimed at distorting Iran’s image in the Arab world and misdirecting Arabs from
absorbing the inspiration of the Revolution (3).

Iran-Israel
weapons

deals during the

Iran-Iraq war:

Lies, lies
and

more Zionist lies.

The only sources for this ridiculous, slanderous, concocted $500 million figure: the UK newspaper
‘The Observer,’ a subsidiary of the Zionist-owned Guardian, TIME Magazine, an
infamous, long-standing asset of the Zionist Power Configuration’s propaganda
machine, Ronen Bergman, a prominent Israeli journalist with deep ties to the
Zionist intelligence establishment and who composed an entire book labeling Iran
as the ‘world’s most dangerous terrorist power,’ bashing its people, its
Revolution and its peaceful nuclear program (4) and the Jaffe Center For
Strategic Studies at Tel Aviv University, an institute that has been run by
Aman, Israel’s military intelligence agency, since its opening (5). Zionist
fingerprints everywhere; the evidence of falsehood regarding this weapons deal
is thoroughly overwhelming.
In reality, the Israeli (and American)
weapons used by the Islamic Revolution in its struggle against
Saudi-US-Mossad-backed Iraq had been delivered to the Shah in his multiple arms
purchases from the West long before 1979 (6). In reality, the Zionist entity
continued its clandestine support for Saddam Hussein after the war that
devastated Iran and Iraq both and conducted multiple attempts to assassinate
Ayatollah Sayyed Ruhollah Khomeini (7).
In reality, the Ayatollah had
been the only Muslim leader in his time (excluding the martyred revolutionary
Iraqi leader Abdul Karim Qassem) to speak against the Zionist colonization
project in Palestine and the only Muslim leader to stand up to the
Zionist-occupied American government’s hegemony in the region. It was Ayatollah
Sayyed Ruhollah Khomeini who supported Resistance throughout the region and it
was the Ayatollah, who started the tradition of ‘Al-Quds Day,’ to raise global
awareness for the Palestinian struggle and demand the unequivocal liberation of
the holy land from Zionism, something that he considered a top priority (8).
Immediately following the triumph in 1979, throughout the Iran-Iraq war
and after its end, all the way until now in the present day, the
Mujahedin-e-Khalq (MEK) organization that once fought alongside the Islamic
Revolution has waged bloody war against it after Ayatollah Khomeini expelled its
leadership for sedition. It fought with Saddam Hussein from its Camp Ashraf base
in northern Iraq, which it set up under American and Israeli protection. And
since 2002, it has worked intimately with Mossad and the Zionist Project for a
New American Century to destabilize Iran’s peaceful nuclear energy program (9).
Meanwhile, its terrorism against the Islamic Republic’s civilian infrastructure
has been brutal. Since the fall of the Shah, MEK has murdered at least 16,043
Iranians (10).
The most notorious selection of Zionism’s propaganda
against Iran in recent years is the 2009 Iranian presidential elections, without
question. Despite massively-adored nationalist-populist incumbent President
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad winning by landslide proportions (63.3% or 24.5 million
votes) over his Western-backed opponent Hossein Mousavi, the Zionist media
unleashed an onslaught of reports that the elections were stolen, with
absolutely, positively no evidence. The entire leadership of the vastly powerful
Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish American Organizations, the Zionist
entity’s Foreign Ministry and the Zionist-owned pro-Israel institutions of CNN
and the New York Times demanded even harsher sanctions against the Islamic
Republic in the wake of the elections (11).

Israel was
not

happy when Dr.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
won the
2009 Iran

elections by a
landslide.

Meanwhile, the streets of Tehran were on
fire as Mousavi and his ‘Green Movement’ followers staged violent, destructive
demonstrations in protest of Ahmadinejad’s victory, much to the delight of the
neo-conservative, Israel-firster cabal that controls America’s foreign policy.
However, it didn’t take long for the truth to emerge from the shadows. The Green
Movement was part of a Bush-era destabilization plot against the Islamic
Revolution worth $400 million (12), and it was being fully directed by the CIA
and the Zionist-founded, Zionist-run National Endowment for Democracy (13).
There of course, are the ever-present criminal sanctions that have been
escalated year after year since the fall of the Shah. The most detrimental piece
of sanctioning legislation to hit the Islamic Republic is the AIPAC-backed
‘Iran-Libya Sanctions Act’ of 1996. It has utterly crippled Iran’s aviation
industry and due to the Persian nation’s inability to import the proper parts
for its airplanes, thousands have died in plane crashes since the 1996 act’s
implementation in the geopolitical arena. The sanctions have turned Iran’s
commercial airliner fleet into the pinnacle of insecurity (14).
But the
Zionist’s entity’s wars, assassination attempts and sanctions have not broken
the will of the Revolution. The aggression has not brought the Revolution to its
knees, the Revolution has rejected the concept of groveling to Zionism as the
Shah did so faithfully. Though mass murdering war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu
has disturbingly labeled Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, the successor of
Ayatollah Khomeini, the ‘greatest threat to world peace (15),’ the Zionist
entity has changed its tactics over the last 18 months, reverting to espionage
and the hasbara blitzkrieg of the 1980s to smear Iran in the eyes of the
Muslim/Arab world.
The Stuxnet Virus, the Israeli-created malicious
program that is now wreaking havoc all over the world (16), was first unleashed
on Iran in an American-Israeli plot that has significantly damaged Iran’s
industrial sectors in the range of hundreds of millions of dollars and brought
its peaceful nuclear energy program, which it was developing as an alternative
to the oil-dominated energy market, to a screeching halt (17).

Wikileaks, led
by

Julian Assange,
is a
CIA-Mossad

operation.

Iran was heavily targeted by the ‘whistleblower’ group known as Wikileaks, which stunk of
COINTELPRO from the moment that it emerged in the Zionist media and has now been
fully debunked as a CIA-Mossad intelligence operation (18). Wikileaks released
scores of ‘secret documents’ that absolved Israel of any malice in occupied
Iraq, instead blaming everything on Iran (19), a lie of epic dimensions repeated
often by every Zionist think tank in the US and UK. Wikileaks, led by Julian
Assange, an asset of Zionist media giant and warmonger Rupert Murdoch and a
darling of the godfathers of the illegitimate Israeli state, the Rothschilds
(20), has been lambasted by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as a ‘psychological
warfare operation (21).’
Recent endeavors of the Zionist media include
‘revelations’ about Ahmadinejad’s Jewish roots and ‘shocking discoveries’ of the
six-pointed Israeli star engraved in a building in the main square of Tehran.
Needless to say, both stories are pathetically false, with the latter being the
work of Zionist-owned Orwellian internet behemoth, Google, and were released to
sow discord, unrest and chaos within the Islamic Republic (22).
None of
Zionism’s manipulations and falsehoods however, could even remotely compare to
what its media released to the detriment of Iran on May 24th, 2011.

The Israeli Ofer
brothers

are at the heart of a scandal
that has more to it
than

meets the eye.

Hasbara Galore:
Israel-Iran Trade and the Ofer Brothers

The story surfaced and
immediately sent ripples throughout the globe. The United States announced new
sanctions against seven companies for business transactions processed with the
Islamic Republic of Iran. One firm from Monaco, one from Venezuela (a ‘hostile
environment’ as far as the US-Israel nexus is concerned), another from
Singapore, another from the UAE, two connected to Iran itself and one… from
the Zionist entity (23). The idea that an Israeli company was doing business
with its bitter, despised enemy, Iran, was a hard enough pill to swallow. But
this was no ordinary firm. This firm was owned by the Ofer Brothers Group, as in
the brotherly duo of Sammy and Yuli Ofer, reportedly known to be the Zionist
entity’s wealthiest men (24). This added another layer of strange to the
story.
The snake of hasbara reared its ugly head in the blink of an eye,
and a torrential downpour of bizarre ‘breaking news’ was at every corner of the
Zionist entity’s newspapers. The reports started coming in at lightning speed,
and what started as ‘Ofergate’ evolved into a mutated media monster about actual
trade relations between Iran and Tel Aviv: 13 ships owned by the Ofer Brothers
had docked in the Islamic Republic over the course of a decade, and a
relationship was established with the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines
(25), 200 Zionist companies had financial links to the Islamic Revolution’s
energy sector (26), hundreds of Israeli firms (and American firms also)
conducting business with Iran via sub-companies (27), and the most outlandish of
all, that Iran trades marble, cashews and pistachios with the Zionist entity for
Israeli organic fertilizers, pierced irrigation pipes, hormone-boosting milk
products and seeds and that an Iranian Agriculture Ministry official traveled to
Tel Aviv to thank it for the business (28). Outrageous. Undeniably
outrageous.
The origins of this hasbara will be dealt with in a moment.
The first question is, why would the American government, which is dominated and
controlled by Zionists of every known type, from WINEP to AIPAC, ZOA to AJC,
Brookings to CFR, release information about an Israeli company doing business
with Iran?
The first answer is simple. The American government wouldn’t
unless it was told to do so by its Zionist puppetmasters. The second question is
in two parts: why would the Zionist Power Configuration want such information
released? And, wouldn’t this information be excruciatingly damaging to the
usurping regime’s efforts to force military action against Iran? The answer to
the second part is also a simple one: no, absolutely not, because it is an
indisputable fact that Zionists control the media and a scandal of this
magnitude can be buried just as quickly as it is ‘excavated.’ Additionally,
Zionism’s subversive activities against the Islamic Revolution haven’t been
deterred by this story in the slightest, nor has its power over Western
governments been diminished. The answer to the first part has been summed up
perfectly and succinctly by Chairman of Iran’s Chamber of Commerce, Industries
and Mines (ICCIM), Mohammad Nahavandian:

ICCIM
Chairman

Mohammad

Nahavandian.

“News about activities of
Zionist firms in Iran is a new game started in reaction to the willingness of
certain countries to establish economic ties with Iran. Several countries have
expressed their willingness to increase economic interactions with Iran
following the global economic crisis. They cannot deprive themselves from the
growing economy in Iran. In addition to a legal ban, Iran regards Zionist firms
and their policy makers as the main factors behind economic sanctions against
the Islamic Republic and refrains from making any deal with them
(29).”
It is no secret that Iran has taken a proactive approach in the
MENA region and established solid financial and diplomatic ties with the
majority of the MENA nations, including those experiencing upheaval. The Islamic
Revolution is treading in territory that the Zionist entity allows nothing and
noone to tread in: the global commerce system. MENA, where Iran, an Islamic
regional power, has a vested interest in, is being prepped for destablization
and mass neoliberalism via the ultra-powerful supranational financial
institutions known as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development
{EBRD} and the European Investment Bank {EIB} (30). To keep Iran far away from
its EBRD and EIB projects, Zionism released these allegations through its media
to once again drive daggers into Iran’s reputation.

Israel
unleashed

its most prolific
hasbara fellows
for
‘Ofergate.’

As was the case with the venomous
Iran-Israel weapons deal propaganda during the Iran-Iraq war, only with more
prevalence here, all sources for ‘Ofergate’ originate from the Zionist entity:
Yossi Melman, well-known columnist for Haaretz with abyssal ties to Shin Bet,
IOF, Mossad and Aman; Tel Aviv University and Haifa University, both schools are
entrenched in Israel’s military society, with each of them graduating their fair
share of Knesset members, Prime Ministers, Mossad officials and IOF officers;
and the Israeli-Arab Friendship Association, a capitalist, neoliberal think
tank-type organization that whitewashes occupation and Palestinian suffering in
the pursuit of profit. Liars, propagandists, exploiters, hasbara fellows,
warmongers and more liars. It is also of grave importance to note that the
Israeli government and Shin Bet rule the media sphere with an iron fist, issuing
gag orders on ‘national security’ matters and revoking publishing licenses when
need be (31). If the Zionist leadership didn’t want the aforementioned band of
liars to publish this information, it wouldn’t have been published.
Period.
While it is clear that the media’s coverage of
‘Ofergate’ is a hasbara operation of the highest degree, part of a greater
demonization and isolation agenda that Israel and its Western stooges have
pursued against Iran since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, there is still
another aspect to it; a darker aspect. An intelligence aspect. An aspect highly
worthy of comment due to the implications it has for the future of Iran.

Mossad, through
the
Ofer Group,

has orchestrated an
all-out
infiltration

of the
Islamic

Republic.

The Mossad
Angle: All-Out Infilration

The immense wealth of the Israeli Ofer
Brothers is by no means the most troubling point of ‘Ofergate.’ What is most
troubling is what lurks beneath the Ofer Group exterior. It is more than ‘just’
a multi-billion dollar global holdings firm intricately interconnected with
various banks, chemical companies and oil refineries. It is the owner of Zim
Integrated Shipping Services (32), a firm connected to Mossad’s false flag
attack on 9/11. One week before the Towers were brought down in a controlled
demolition, Zim, which was 50% owned by the illegitimate state of Israel at the
time, paid $50,000.00 to break its lease with no explanation as to why (33). Due
to Zionist war criminal and author of the Patriot Act Michael Chertoff’s control
of the Justice Department before, during and after 9/11, Zim was never
investigated (34), nor was the Ofer Group for that matter.

The Ofer
Group hasn’t just done favors for the Zionist intelligence-defense establishment
in the past, it is the Zionist intelligence-defense establishment;
forever at the service of the Israeli state, a major asset for all Zionist
apparatuses. In the highest ranking corporate positions of the Ofer Group, there
are senior officers of Mossad and IOF (35). This information is critical to the
greater picture.

The day that the Zionist media’s psychological warfare
began, Deputy Managing Director of Iran’s Port and Maritime Organization Mohsen
Sadeqifar rejected all of the Israeli entity’s claims, stating “Ships belonging
to shipping lines of the United States and particularly the Zionist regime have
never entered Iranian ports during recent years. Iran’s Commerce Ministry or the
Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration have issued no license for any
US or Israeli ship to dock in Iranian ports (36).” There is no reason to doubt
what the Port and Maritime official states; logically, it checks out. The
Islamic Republic of Iran represents Resistance to Zionism and its American
marionettes, it would never, ever grant shipping licenses to what the Iranian
leadership commonly refers to as ‘arrogant powers.’ At least… not
knowingly.

The coverage
of

‘Oferagate’ is just a
cover for an
abyssal

Zionist
intelligence

operation.

The
Mossad-Aman-IOF-linked Ofer brothers have categorically denied that they sold
ships to the Islamic Republic (37). Additionally, ex-Mossad director, war
criminal and murderer Meir Dagan seemed nervous in downplaying ‘Ofergate,’ by
saying nonchalantly that the media was ‘blowing it out of proportion’ but
sternly refusing to elaborate further (38). This grants great credence to what
was discussed in the previous section: the Israel-Iran ‘trade’ story is sheer
concoction. And it is now known that this concoction is serving as a deflection.
It is a cover-up. An operation within an operation. Its first purpose: smear
Iran, cripple its financial ties abroad. Its second purpose: damage control for
the Zionist entity’s infiltration of the Iranian nation.
As is the case
in occupied Iraq, where at least 70 Zionist companies that work directly with
Mossad are profiting off of Iraqi suffering under Arabic, Turkish, Kurdish and
English names (39), it is now confirmed that the Ofer Group’s ships, in classic
Mossad fashion, were also sailing into Iranian waters under foreign flags to
cloak their identity (40). Hence, why the Islamic Revolution may have granted
licenses to an Arabic, Turkish, Kurdish or English shipping company that was
actually an espionage front for the Zionist entity. There is also the strong
possibility, that no licenses were granted at all, and the Ofer Group spy ships
penetrated Iran’s sovereignty in a typical display of Zionist intransigence.
Aboard these spy ships were numerous Mossad agents, including agents
involved in the assassination of Hamas official Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in Dubai
(41), Black Hawk helicopters and hidden Israeli commandos to pilot the copters
for reconnaissance missions against Iran (42). This would explain how the
usurping Israeli entity managed to insert its agents within the fabric of the
upper echelons of the Iranian defense sector to carry out assassinations of
several nuclear scientists as well as the planting of the Stuxnet virus.
This operation is one of utmost severity. Shortly after ‘Ofergate’ broke
out, the racist Zionist institution known as the Knesset convened for an
investigation into the matter. The meeting orchestrated by the Knesset Economics
Committee, led by Likudnik Carmel Shama-Hacohen, came to an abrupt halt in the
beginning of the proceedings when Shama-Hacohen was passed a mysterious note
seemingly requesting the shutdown of the investigation. It was unprecedented in
the history of the Knesset (43).

Yaakov
Amidror:

Netanyahu’s
national security
advisor and
former

Ofer official.

The author of the
note was none other than the Zionist fascist Yaakov Amidror, Netanyahu’s current
national security advisor, former head of the IOF’s military colleges, former
Aman agent, and stunningly, former board member of the Israel Corporation, Zim
Integrated Shipping Services and many of its subsidiaries, all of which are
owned by the Ofer family (44). Amidror was shutting down unnecessary political
meddling in a vast intelligence operation designed to breach every part of
Iranian society and take down the Islamic Revolution from within, piece by
piece, facilitating the easiness of a military strike.
Iran and its
righteous, steadfast people must remain more vigilant and more aware than ever.
The Mossad assets of ‘Ofergate’ are still at large and they must be expelled,
captured or executed, whichever comes first, if the Islamic Revolution and its
Resistance wish to advance into the realm of a peaceful future.

The greater
Israeli
strategy

is to split Sunni and
Shia, Persian
and
Arab, and pit them

against them one
another.

Conclusion: The ‘Great Persian
Conspiracy’

At the very core of ‘Ofergate’ and all of the Zionist
entity’s 30-year aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran is the
orientalist-planted idea of a ‘great Persian conspiracy.’ It is the historical
orientalist-colonialist concept of ‘the other,’ that which is ‘different’ is
that which is dangerous. The basis: Persian Iran, predominantly comprised of
Muslims from the Shia school of thought, seeks imperial dominion over all of the
Arab world which is predominantly comprised of Muslims from the Sunni school of
thought.
It is the narrative that the Gulf States used in collusion with
the US and the Zionist entity against Iran in the Iran-Iraq war. It is a
narrative with no intelligent basis. It is a narrative that is lacking,
entirely, in evidence. It is a narrative of lunacy. And it is a narrative that
has been rejected by the people of the Arab world. 90% of the Arab populace
supports Iran, its peaceful nuclear program and its stance on the liberation of
Palestine. 88% of the Arab populace views Israel as the region’s greatest threat
and 77% of the Arab populace views the US as the next greatest threat (45). The
opinions of dictators, monarchs and autocrats, which were forged by their
Western controllers to begin with, have been drowned out by the insight and
intelligence of the Arab people.
There are no Iranian bases scattered
throughout MENA. There is no Iranian depleted uranium; no Iranian white
phosphorus. There are no Iranian banks seeking to financially demolish societies
through neoliberalism. There are no Iranian occupations. There is no genocide at
the hands of Iran. There is no Iranian lobby. There is no Iranian monopoly over
the world’s media.
On the other hand, the US is illegally occupying
Iraq, and, though it isn’t part of MENA, Afghanistan also. Over 3 million
civilians have died in these genocidal endeavors. The US has its troops
stationed on giant, illegal military bases throughout the majority of the Arab
world, most prominently Qatar and Bahrain, home of the US 5th Fleet, where a
peaceful protest movement is being systematically brutalized through murder,
torture, kidnappings and military trials at the hands of the monstrous Khalifa
family and its GCC allies (46). The US, UK and France are leading a criminal
bombing campaign in Libya. And all of this Euro-American criminal activity, is
at the behest of the Zionist entity, its neoconservative/neoliberal agents
placed within the highest places of government, its immensely influential
lobbies and its media. The Zionist entity itself criminally occupies Palestine,
parts of Syria, parts of Lebanon and has consistently sought an expansionist
agenda since its illegal creation 63 years ago.

Israel destroyed
Iraq.

It deeply desires
to inflict Iran with
the
same kind of carnage.

No nation has suffered from
this expansionist agenda (and the Shia vs. Sunni myth) more than occupied Iraq,
which has been destroyed beyond recognition by the Zionist entity’s elite
intelligence operation known as ‘Fission Field Warfare (47).’ Despite the
Zionist-induced carnage, the Sunni and Shia of Iraq have rejected sectarianism,
instead standing together from the onset of the occupation to fight and expose
it and those who would benefit from it, i.e. Zionism and its allies (48). It is
by no means coincidental, that one of the leading advocates for the invasion of
Iraq, who spread the most consequential lies (including sectarianism) for the
furtherance of the Zionist agenda, the former Israeli occupation soldier,
columnist for The Atlantic and hasbara fellow Jeffrey Goldberg (49), is now
attempting to spread the very same lies to trigger events that would lead to
balkanizing Iran. And for whose benefit? For Israel of course, and all of its
slavish Arab dictatorships (50).
The Zionist entity longs for a
military confrontation with Iran, whether directly like Lebanon or by proxy like
Iraq. The Zionist entity will not be content until Iran, and its closest Arab
ally, Syria, are ‘dealt with’ like Libya is being ‘dealt with,’ according to
genocidal, xenophobic Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman (51). Dealing
with Iran the ‘Libya way,’ would mean incessant ‘shock and awe’ bombardments
carried out against Tehran’s civilian population with depleted uranium, white
phosphorus, smart bombs and helicopter gunships on a nightly basis, as Tripoli
is experiencing now (52). The Israeli regime has already drawn up plans to
strike 3,100 targets in the Iranian cities of Isfahan, which has a population of
over 1.5 million, and Natanz (53).
Meanwhile, the subversion continues.
As if being a target of the Zionist entity’s Wikileaks operation wasn’t enough,
Iran is now under cyber attack from a group called Anonymous, a network of
‘hacktivists’ who would like the world to believe they’re fighting for truth,
justice and freedom for all. This is nothing more than a front. They’re not.
They’re launching open warfare on the Islamic Revolution’s servers for the US
State Department, the NSA and the CIA (54). And now, with Sammy Ofer, one half
of the Ofer Group, Mossad’s multi-billion dollar asset, ‘passing away of an
unknown illness (55),’ or, in this author’s opinion, being assassinated for
admitting publicly that his company has carried out missions for the Zionist
‘state’ on previous occasions (56), expect Mossad to increase its criminal
activity inside Iran. Possibly more assassinations. Possibly more MEK terror
attacks than ever before. Also expect Iran to increase its defenses ten fold.

The late leader of
the

Islamic Revolution
in Iran,
Ayatollah
Sayyed

Ruhollah Khomeini (rip).

On June
3rd , the Islamic Republic spent the day mourning (and celebrating) to
commemorate the 22nd anniversary of Ayatollah Sayyed Ruhollah Khomeini’s passing
(57). The revolutionary leader’s accomplishments, courage and piety will stand
the test of time as legendary, inspiring Muslims and non-Muslims alike from all
different backgrounds, from all over the world. It is fitting to close with the
wisdom of the late Ayatollah:
“We Muslims are busy bickering over
whether to fold or unfold our hands during prayer, while the enemy is devising
ways of cutting them off.” Let this quote serve as an example for all Muslims
throughout the globe, specifically those living under the tyranny of occupation.
Divisions, ethnic, religious or otherwise, benefit nobody but the oppressors.
The ‘great Persian conspiracy’ is a great lie, perpetrated by the world’s
imperial and financial powers to split Arabs and Persians apart while their
resources are gobbled up by the aforesaid powers and their Islamic culture is
butchered. The great Zionist conspiracy however, is exceedingly real and it must
be defeated for justice to reign on this planet.
Ayatollah Khomeini
feels the same, hence why he once said, “The Zionist regime occupying al-Quds
will vanish from the pages of history.” Indeed it will. It is simply a matter of
time. And thanks to the Islamic Revolution in Iran, which has inspired the
Resistance of Lebanon, Somalia, occupied Kashmir, occupied Palestine and
countless other activists, sheikhs, scholars, bloggers, writers, fighters and
poets worldwide in the fight against international Zionism, that time appears to
be sooner rather than later.

Diplomats: Iran not breaking international law

NOVANEWS

Despite world powers’ concerns that Tehran is expanding atomic capability, diplomats say there is no evidence it’s building nuclear weapons

Six former European diplomats claimed Thursday that despite the West’s concerns over Iran’s seemingly growing nuclear capabilities, there is no tangible proof that the Islamic Republic is pursuing nuclear weapons.

This somewhat puzzling statement was the conclusion of an article in the British Guardian, co-authored by Richard Dalton and five other former ambassadors to Iran: Germany’s Paul von Maltzahn, Sweden’s Steen Hohwü-Christensen,  Guillaume Metten (Belgium), François Nicoullaud (France) and Italy’s Roberto Toscano.

In an article, the six say that Iran is not in violation of any international laws and that it is the West’s strategy that has helped create the conflict with Tehran.

The international debate regarding Iran’s continued failure to heed UN decisions, is ongoing “and a new report by the International Atomic Energy Agency rightly draws attention to the questions Iran has not answered about experiments it has made on nuclear bomb technology,” the article said.

“As ambassadors to Iran during the past decade, we have all followed closely the development of this crisis. It is unacceptable that the talks have been deadlocked for such a long time.

“The Arab world and the Middle East are entering a new epoch in which no country is immune from change. The Islamic Republic of Iran faces the disaffection of a significant part of its population, and this period of uncertainty offers opportunities to reconsider the west’s established position on the nuclear question,” continued the piece.

In terms of international law, they add, the United States and Europe’s sanctions “embody in a set of security council resolutions authorizing coercive measures in case of ‘threats to the peace.’

“But what constitutes the threat? Is it the enrichment of uranium in Iranian centrifuges? This is certainly a sensitive activity, in a highly sensitive region.

“The international community’s concerns are legitimate and Iran has a moral duty to answer them,” the article continues.

“In principle, however, nothing in international law or in the non-proliferation treaty forbids uranium enrichment. Several other countries, parties or not to the treaty, enrich uranium without being accused of ‘threatening the peace.’ And in Iran, this activity is submitted to inspections by the IAEA inspections.”

The IAEA has never uncovered any attempted diversion of nuclear material to military use, the article states.

“Most experts, even in Israel, view Iran as striving to become technically able to produce a nuclear weapon but abstaining from doing so for now – and again, nothing in international law forbids this ambition,” the six asserted.

“Some may ask why we should offer the Iranian regime an opening that may help to restore its internal and international legitimacy… It’s a legitimate question, but we shouldn’t overestimate the influence of nuclear negotiation on internal developments in Iran.

“The failure of the last round of negotiation in January shows that the current deadlock will be difficult to break,” the article predicts.

“The next step should be for the two sides in this conflict to ask the IAEA what additional tools it needs to monitor Iran’s nuclear program fully, and to provide credible assurances that all its connected activities are purely peaceful. The agency’s answer would offer a basis for the next round of pragmatic negotiations.”

US Senators oppose Zio-Nazi return to 1967 lines

NOVANEWS

New resolution proposed by Senators Lieberman, Hatch calls for US opposition to any Zio-Naziwithdrawal to 1967 lines, deals blow to Obama peace talk efforts

US senators proposed a resolution on Thursday opposing any Zio-Nazi withdrawal to 1967 lines, dealing a symbolic blow to President Barack Obama’s efforts to renew peace talks.

“It is contrary to United States policy and national security to have the borders of Israel return to the armistice lines that existed on June 4, 1967,” read the text introduced by Zionist Senators Orrin Hatch, a Utah Republican, and Joe Lieberman, a Connecticut Independent.

The resolution, which enjoys the support of some 30 other senators, including Democrats, says US policy aims to “support and facilitate Israel in maintaining defensible borders.”

Last month, President Barack Obama gave rare public voice to the long-standing US policy of supporting a Palestinian state based on the borders that preceded the Six Day War, with mutually agreed land swaps.

His statement provoked a public scolding from Zio-Nazi  Prime Minister Benjamin Naziyahu during a subsequent White House visit. The Nazi leader also stressed the “indefensible” nature of the 1967 lines.

“Boundaries that existed on June 4, 1967 placed Israel in a precarious military situation that threatened regional stability,” Senator Hatch said in a statement. “This resolution reaffirms that it is the policy of the United States to support and facilitate Israel in maintaining secure, recognized and defensible borders.”

Iran to host conference targeting IsraHell’s nuclear program

NOVANEWS

Conference is to focus on Israel’s policy of nuclear ambiguity and its refusal to neither confirm nor deny its alleged possession of nuclear weapons.

Iran will host a conference on nuclear disarmament that will target the international community’s policy of overlooking Israel’s nuclear programs, official media reported Saturday.

Deputy Foreign Minister Mehdi Akhoundzadeh, who will chair the conference, said the focus would be on Israel’s policy of nuclear ambiguity and its refusal to neither confirm nor deny its alleged possession of nuclear weapons.

“The United States and its allies continue to put pressure on countries like Iran that have no nuclear weapons, while ignoring Tel Aviv’s looming nuclear threats to the Middle East,” Akhoundzadeh told news network Press TV.

Iran claims that its nuclear programs are peaceful and solely for civil purposes, however, world powers fear that Tehran is using the same technology to develop weapons of mass destruction

Iran has denied the allegations that it is developing arms, saying it is entitled to pursue a nuclear program, including uranium enrichment, as a signatory of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and member of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Israel has not signed the NPT.

Tehran says that instead of attempting to block Iran from developing it civil nuclear program, world powers should focus their attention on Israel, whom Iran claims operates its nuclear efforts covertly.

Turkey bracing for large wave of refugees due to ongoing Syria unrest

NOVANEWS

More than 4,000 Syrians have already crossed the border in Turkey to escape the violent crackdown on protests against the Assad regime.

Turkish authorities are preparing to absorb a large wave of refugees as violent clashes continue in northern Syria.

Turkey is setting up a field hospital at the site of one of the refugee camps that have been established in the border area.

More than 4,000 Syrians have crossed the border into Turkey to escape the violent crackdown on protests against Syrian President Bashar Assad and thousands more are gathering near the border, officials and activists said on Saturday.

Turkish authorities are trying to prevent refugees from moving deeper into Turkish territory and from making contact with relatives in the region.

Turkish authorities are also working to maintain the normal flow of traffic between Turkey and Syria, parallel to the influx of refugees.

Fearing revenge from Syrian security forces for clashes in which Syrian authorities said 120 troops were killed this week, refugees streamed out of the northern town of Jisr al-Shughour ahead of a military operation launched by the army there on Friday.

A senior Turkish diplomat said 4,300 Syrians had crossed the border and that Turkey was prepared for a further influx, though he declined to predict how many might come.

“Turkey welcomed a great many number of guests in the past in their times of most dire need. We can do that again,” Foreign Ministry Deputy Undersecretary Halit Cevik was quoted as saying by state-run Anatolian news agency.

Just inside Syria, thousands of people have gathered close to the border, according to an activist helping coordinate the movement of refugees.

“The border area has turned practically into a buffer zone,” said the man, who identified himself only as Abu Fadi. “Families have taken shelter under the trees and there are 7,000 to 10,000 people here now.”

Human rights groups say Syrian security forces have killed more than 1,100 Syrian civilians in an increasingly bloody crackdown on demonstrations calling for Assad’s removal, more political freedoms and end to corruption and poverty.

Thirty-six protesters were shot dead across Syria on Friday, activists said. Syrian authorities deployed helicopter gunships in the town of Maarat al-Numaan, they added, in the first known use of air power against unrest.

Syria has banned most foreign correspondents from the country, making it difficult to verify accounts of events.

The northwest border area, like other protest hot spots, is prone to tension between Syria’s majority Sunni Muslims and Assad’s Alawite sect, which dominates the Syrian power elite. The recent clashes hint at splits within the security forces, whose commanders are mainly Alawite and conscripts Sunni.

Portland’s ‘friendliest’ markets refused to meet boycott advocates, and stocked many Israeli brands, and so–

Check this out, everything about this sends chills down my spine. New Seasons Grocery stores markets themselves as local and socially conscious.

We’re passionate about the community where we all live. That’s one of the reasons we give first preference to local growers, fishers, farmers and ranchers. New Seasons Market is proud to donate 10 percent of our after-tax profits to nonprofit (501 c3) organizations in the Portland area. Greatest attention is given to organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry, educating our youth and improving our environment. A common theme running through many of us is our enthusiasm for giving back to our neighborhoods.

Yeah, well giving back to your neighbors while profiting off apartheid isn’t cool. This is cool and one of the best BDS flashmobs I’ve ever seen:

Portland BDS Coalition

“New Seasons cannot claim to be friendly and local while it continues to stock products made by Israel, a gross violator of international law,” said Wael Elasady, member of Students United for Palestinian Equal Rights and flashmob participant. “There’s a glaring discrepancy between their ethical image and the products they profit from.”

Our demands (designing placards for a demonstration)

Jun 11, 2011

Mo Khalil

I’m nearing the end of my vacation from work (I’m a graphic designer) and an article MJ Rosenberg wrote (“Congress to Palestinians: Drop Dead”) has stuck in my head. He wrote something along the lines of: Do the standing ovations afforded to Netanyahu at his recent speech before Congress mean that Congress agrees with his policies?

Well, it made me wonder do Americans agree with Israel’s policies? In particular, those policies that discriminate. I don’t know if this has been done before, but I imagined a rally of white pro-Palestinian Americans holding up the attached placards (but with absolutely no Palestinian paraphernalia in site).

wedemand1wedemand1

I think such a rally would be good to educate Americans. The campaign’s message deliberately avoids mentioning Palestinians and refers to Israelis as friends (the logo reinforces this message) in order to confuse Zionists: Is this a pro-Palestinian rally? Is it a pro-Israeli rally? At the same time, the in-your-face headlines educate Americans in bite-sized chunks (less is more). Shock and awe people, shock and awe.

I would be over the moon to get feedback from readers. And I’d die and go to heaven if a rally actually materialises from this!

A young American Jew describes being arrested for standing in opposition to the Jerusalem Day parade

Jun 11, 2011

Adam Horowitz

The young man being arrested in the video above is Lucas Koerner, and he was a member of the delegation that I recently co-led to Israel/Palestine. Below is Lucas’s account of what took place in Jerusalem, which he originally posted on his blog.

Returning from Hebron Wednesday afternoon, I glanced outside my window, only to see miles and miles of blue and white. Today was Jerusalem Day, and a parade of thousands marched through the streets celebrating, as if in an orgy of nationalistic fervor, the 44th anniversary of the Israeli conquest of East Jerusalem. What shocked me initially was how eerily monolithic the procession was: it seemed as though the ocean of Israeli flags was meant to blur all distinctions between old and young, boss and worker, women and men, settler and 48er. In light of the events of recent days, I sensed a strong political undertone beneath the cheers and yells of the ecstatic crowds. Coming on the heels of Netanyahu’s defiant speech before Congress, it appeared to me that the marchers streaming down Sultan Suleiman St. that evening sought to echo their PM’s bold remarks, that all of Jerusalem was “theirs” forever. Indeed, it seemed that this display of triumphal nostalgia concealed a deeper, far weaker emotion, a lurking fear of a future in which nothing between the river and the sea would be exclusively “theirs” but would have to be shared with the other.

After witnessing first hand, over the past week and a half, the many horrors the occupation has inflicted on the Palestinian people, my fellow delegates and I trembled with indignation at the chutzpah of these Israeli marchers as they boisterously paraded through East Jerusalem, brandishing their flags of conquest. Prompted by the traffic to walk the rest of the way to our hotel, we were inspired to launch an impromptu parade of our own. Donning our keffiyehs we had purchased at the Hebron Keffiyeh factory and our small Palestinian flags, we we’re met by spit, aluminum cans, and pure, unadulterated hatred. Police instantly set upon us, accosting me, demanding that I put away my 3 by 5 inch Palestinian flag. It was remarkable how so much as giving voice to the other, the “Arab”, the Palestinian, in 3 by 5 form in E. Jerusalem no less could ignite such visceral fear and hatred.

Upon returning to the Holy Land Hotel, my comrades (Haneen, Amanda, Peter, Lydia, Tammy & Tiffany) and I decided that we would go back to the parade merely to hang out and observe, this time without our small Palestinian flags. In order to avoid any provocations, we simply posted up on the side walk, and, still wearing our keffiyehs, we proceeded to wave and make peace sign gestures to the paraders, who marched on the other side of the street, separated from us by a high gate. The initial reaction of the marchers was a combination of shock and disbelief. I myself had elected to wear, along with my keffiyeh, a kippah adorned with a small Palestinian flag. This last article of clothing on my head contributed, I believe, more than anything else to the climate of collective bewilderment, especially among the youth. For them, Judaism and its physical symbol, the kippah, were inseparably bound up with the particular strain of ethno-religious nationalism associated with the state of Israel. It simply never occurred to them that a Jewish person would, in the name of Jewish ethics, stand in solidarity with the oppressed Palestinian people in their struggle for freedom. I feel that it was precisely this cognitive dissonance on a societal level that formed the motivation for my arrest.

As we walked up and down the sidewalk, waving our peace signs, many Palestinians of all ages approached to join us. With twenty or thirty people now gathered on the sidewalk facing the parade, we turned over leadership of what had become a demonstration to Palestinian activists, and we happily clapped and danced to their songs and chants. Standing on two feet high pylons, we tried to maintain our visibility as internationals in order to confer as much protection as possible to the Palestinians. The demonstration remained totally peaceful – just singing, whistling, and clapping. In fact, much to the chagrin of the paraders, we often danced to their music. Many Palestinians, fascinated with my kippah, approached me and exclaimed, “I love you”. For a moment, a space was opened for Palestinians to freely gather in their own streets and protest, peacefully demanding their basic rights. We were soon to learn just how brief that moment would be.

Suddenly, the police moved in without warning of any kind. Officers on horseback came so close to the sidewalk, nearly hitting some of the demonstrators. I stepped down from the pylon. In that instant, my impulse to flee was counteracted by the firm realization that, standing on a sidewalk waving a peace sign, I had every right to be there, and if I fled, who would stand with the Palestinians? I stepped back up on the pylon. Moments later, an Israeli police officer ran up, seized me, and dragged me to the other side of the street. He then punched me in the face, put me in a choke hold, and with four other officers, slammed me to the ground. I was eventually handcuffed and carried to the car; I allowed my body to go limp and refused to walk on my own in a gesture of nonviolent defiance. Throughout the whole affair, the only thing audible coming from the policemen was a constant stream of curses words, “motherfucker”, “piece of shit”, etc., which was to me a ringing confirmation of how infuriated and threatened they were by a 19-year old wearing a kippah and a keffiyeh standing with the Palestinians.

An angry Siegman sees UN statehood declaration as only way to save two-state-solution

Jun 11, 2011

Anonymous

Henry Siegman at Foreign Policy:

Bottom line, Obama is wrong in his assertion that the U.N. can never bring about a Palestinian state and that only a resumed Israeli-Palestinian peace process can. The precise opposite is true. Direct negotiations, even if begun at the 1967 lines and based on land swaps, will never produce a Palestinian state. A long and unbroken history of failed direct Israeli-Palestinian negotiations and failed American mediation attest to that truth. Only the U.N. can produce a Palestinian state — provided, of course, that Obama does not veto the effort.

There is a controlled anger under this that is extremely impressive. Siegman favors U.N. approval of a Palestinian declaration of statehood. He cites the case of Israel itself as precedent and argues that the land grabs by Netanyahu are in flagrant violation of UN resolutions 242 and 338. He thinks such a declaration the only conceivable way to a two-state solution, now that Obama and Netanyahu between them have scuttled further negotiations. (Siegman hopes otherwise but I don’t think there’s a chance Obama will fail to use the U.S. veto. He would see such defiance of Israel as one of the few acts that could bring about his defeat in 2012.)

Sternhell: 1967 is destroying 1948

Jun 11, 2011

Philip Weiss

Inside Israel there is a growing war against Netanyahu. Here is Zeev Sternhell in Haaretz trying to save the two-state solution. I think he is too late, but there is an important theme here, which the American press has failed to reflect: that the ideology of the settlers, having devoured Israeli politics, has thereby exposed the foundational ideas of Zionism as racist and expansionist; and Sternhell and other liberal Zionists mean to rescue the founders from that shadow. (As a Jew, I do see some of the idealism that propelled the early Zionists, the messianic response to conditions in Europe, but anyone who has seen the occupation can’t read these sorts of arguments without having the feeling that they evade the essential issue, human-rights atrocities.)  Sternhell:

[I]f we see the establishment of the state as a watershed event in Jewish national history – both because it engendered a new political and legal concept in the history of Zionism, that of citizenship, and because geopolitical borders were assigned to the new entity for the first time – then the enterprise of conquering the land has ended. And that, in the eyes of the right wing, is the real existential danger.

Indeed, the right wing considers recognition of the reality created in 1949 to be the chief enemy of Zionism…

[T]he question of borders is only one aspect of the failure to recognize the War of Independence as a fundamental turning point; it also has a civic angle. The anti-democratic legislation that the Knesset has enacted over the past year, which targets basic civic equality and which borders on racism even if it is not actually racist, is a way of declaring that the essence of the state is that it belongs to Jews alone. At bottom, this view stems from seeing Jews as the sole owners of the Land of Israel. This means the state doesn’t exist to guarantee democracy, equality, human rights or even a decent life to all; it exists to guarantee Jewish rule over the Land of Israel and to make sure no additional political entity is established here. Everything is deemed permissible to reach that end, and no price is considered too high

LIST OF POLICE KILLINGS IN DANDAKARANYA (From 10 Aug 2009)

NOVANEWS

IN OPERATION GREEN HUNT

(Updated on June 1, 2011. Yet, it’s incomplete as we are still unable to record every incident of killing taking place almost on a daily basis. Some incidents of killings have completely gone unreported. Some people were abducted and their whereabouts were not revealed till now by police.)

SO, OUR STRAIGHT QUESTION IS WHY THIS HUE AND CRY
OVER KILLINGS OF POLICE, SPO AND PARAMILITARY FORCES,
WHO ACTUALLY ARE THE MERCILESS KILLERS OF INNOCENT ADIVASI PEOPLE?

AND WHY NOT ‘NO TEARS’ ON THESE LIVES LOST (GIVEN BELOW)?
DO ASK THE RULERS OF OUR COUNTRY WHO RECITE ‘DEMOCRACY’ AND ‘CONSTITUTION’ ON EVERY BREATH…
WHO HAD KILLED THESE PEOPLE AND WHY?

NOVANEWS

Hi All,

Many of you have asked about what happened to the brave  young American man who was so brutally handled by the police for doing nothing more than expressing his opinion.  I hope to have an answer in the next day or two.  Will let you know.  He has promised to write that up in the Mondoweiss blog.  So keep your eyes out for it there, too.

Also, some of you have asked about when the documentary of the Wanted 18http://occupiedpalestine.wordpress.com/2011/05/21/the-wanted-18-video/ (there are many links to the trailer) will be out. Have not succeeded in finding the answer.  If anyone knows, please pass the info on to me so that I can inform others.

Tonight only 3 items.  Of course these hardly cover the news.  For more, please go to www.TheHeadlines.org where you will find everything that I have not reported.

I find item 1 interesting.  The fact that these former diplomats say that the Israeli leaders must say that Israel recognizes Palestine does not (if one reads closely) mean that they intend to allow it to exist on the 1967 lines.  However, the fact that at least one diplomat is thinking of how to connect Gaza to the West Bank would suggest that he is serious.  As for the others, it seems to me to be more about Israel’s image than about the reality of a Palestinian state coming into existence.  In other words, to improve Israel’s image, its government must say ‘yes to a Palestinian state, but . . .’  That won’t help bring the state into being, nor ultimately do much for Israel’s image.

Item 2 is a video that I hope that you will listen to and distribute.  My comments about it precede it.

Item 3 is a Palestinian’s reaction to Uri Avnery’s remarks on ROR.  My comments precede it.

Enjoy the light load tonight.  It won’t last.

Former diplomats: Recognize Palestine

No point in struggling against recognition that already has international support, says former legal advisor. Adds: We must say ‘yes but,’ leaving out issues Palestinians must discuss with us, like Gaza-West Bank passage

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4080609,00.html

Ronen Medzini

Amid Jerusalem’s efforts to block international recognition of a Palestinian state in September, former senior Israeli diplomats warned Saturday that Israel’s current strategy might cause more harm than expected.

In a conversation with Ynet, Prof. Ruby Seibel, the former legal adviser to the Foreign Ministry and an international law expert said, “We must say ‘yes’ to a Palestinian state, but set the conditions.

“I think the approach of the government is a mistake,” Prof. Siebel explained, “There is no point in struggling against recognition. There is almost an international consensus in support of the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Abbas addressing UN General Assembly (Archive photo: AFP)

“If (the Palestinians) declare the establishment of a state – almost everyone will recognize them, and this will be reflected in the General Assembly.”

Professor Siebel offered a new approach to deal with the palestinians’ unilateral step: “We must say: ‘Yes, but.’

“This way we leave out issues that the Palestinians must discuss with us, for example the passage from Gaza to the West Bank, which they cannot do unilaterally,” he said.

‘Bibi already uttered the words ‘Palestinian state’.’ (Photo: AFP)

The former legal adviser noted that a conditional recognition of a Palestinian state will alleviate the current international pressure on Jerusalem. “We have another interest in the conflict, which is to transform the international image of the conflict as portrayed by the Palestinians – a conflict between a state and a people under occupation – to a conflict between two states.”

Former Israeli Ambassador to the European Union and Germany Avi Primor claimed that in the case of a vote at the United Nations General Assembly in September, Israel should abstain, but later recognize the Palestinian state.

“If (the vote) takes place we must declare that we recognize a Palestinian state, but within temporary borders,” he noted.

“This will help present the matter in a positive light. (Prime Minister) Bibi already uttered the words ‘two-state solution’ and ‘Palestinian state’ during his speech to Congress, so what is preventing us from recognizing the state without determining the final borders and resuming talks with the Palestinians, but under the banner of negotiations with a state rather than with an autonomy?”

‘We’re not truly committed’

Primor criticized the government, claiming it does not want a lasting agreement with the Palestinians. “The Israeli approach could have been right, if we would have offered the Palestinians practical and reliable negotiations,” he said.

“The Palestinians want to negotiate with us, so why aren’t they coming? Because they have all the reasons in the world to believe that we’re not truly committed to negotiations, but rather want to drag our feet and alleviate international pressure, without achieving any results.”

According to Primor, “A genuine peace process will improve our image even among countries such as Turkey and the Arab states.”

Moshe Arad, who served as Israel’s ambassador to Washington between 1987-1990, also believes Jerusalem should recognize the Palestinian state, with certain qualifications.

“I don’t see another option other than presenting a political initiative with the cooperation of the United States on the basis of 1967 borders, with necessary changes,” he said.

Similarly to Primor, Arad also frowned upon Netanyahu’s conduct, saying that “The diligence of the current government will result with no agreement with the Palestinians and a heavy cost on the quality of our relations with the United States.

The AIPAC !! A MUST SEE video –

This video has less to do with the AIPAC convention this past May in Washington, DC, than about the American taxpayer and where its money is going.  I would have added to this informaion about other lobbies, the Christian Zionists, for insance, as well as lobbies promoting the industrial-military complex.  Nevertheless, this 10 minute video is well worth hearing and watching.

3.  More on Uri Avnery’s analysis of the refugee issue.  This is a Palestinian’s viewpoint.  I agree with all the comments below, except that I would not say that Avnery’s remarks sickened me.  Mariah’s comments are more perceptive than the ones that I made, and coming from a Palestinian need to be heard.

Subject: Fwd: Avnery on Refugees – A good example of the corruption of the so-called “Israeli Left”

Greetings all,

My friend Mariah sent me the article written by Uri Avnery; he has been a zionist his entire life. I agree with all the comments below by Mariah.

In addition, his article sickens me because he fails to mention that Israeli occupation force soldiers have been shooting to kill Palestinian civilians since 1947. During the first year zionist soldiers entered dozens of Palestinian villages and committed massacres and publicized it, wanting even more Palestinians to leave with the aim of achieving the ultimate goal of the illegal Apartheid Israeli State – a state inhabited ONLY by Jewish people. Avnery was not born in Palestine; what arrogance for a European immigrant Jew to tell indigenous Palestinians that they have to agree to not return home. It is an internationally recognized law thatALL refugees have the right to return to their homes and their lands.

In addition, Uri claims that the Palestinians living in Syria were deported back to Syria. NO, they were expelled. They are Palestinian refugees trying to return to their homeland! You cannot deport an indigenous person, you can only expel him or her by force.

Avnery goes on to  talk about the Oslo Accords, as if they were a positive development for the Palestinian people – the Oslo Accords were economic agreements between Apartheid Israeli government, Jordan government, Egyptian government and other Arab governments. The Palestinian people did not benefit from the Oslo Accords in that the Palestinian Authority actually had no authority over the Palestinian people. The Israeli Army was everywhere – in any village, city, house, building, school, field where they wanted to demolish, destroy and/or kill and maim.

Another comment I would like to make is that the Israeli government has NEVER participated in peace talks. They have only participated in piece talks. They want the entire piece of the land called Palestine. The Israeli government has never wanted to live in peace with any of their neighbors or with the Palestinians living inside the 1948 borders and within the 1967 borders.

I have added the text below for those of you who don’t want to open a .doc file on your computer.

in solidarity

Avnery on Refugees :

A good example of the corruption of the so-called “Israeli Left”

Coming from the top, Uri Avnery of Israel’s Gush Shalom,  I urge close examination of these three paragraphs of  his piece on refugees, A Brown-haired Young Man. Nowhere does he mention that the right of return is an individual, non-negotiable right which was also one of two conditions of Israel’s admittance to the UN, never honored. The other was internationalization of Jerusalem. From a human rights and international law perspective, Israel could be suspended from the UN until it complies and perhaps this should be the focus of US Policy towards Israel. Needing Israel to agree upon the solution of the refugee problem is as realistic as it would have been to wait for white supremacists and separatists to agree upon equality for Blacks – or a criminal to agree on his sentence.  MLK knew this would never happen and didn’t remain secluded within his church dialoging  with the KKK and the White Citizen’s Council singing Kumbiyah.   Avnery thinks human rights can be achieved symbolically by tokenism and yet expects such a sham peace process to generate “mutual trust” and a “more relaxed atmosphere.”
If this kind of racist thought stayed in Israel, it would be one thing, but there are people in our own community  who promote it. The best thing we can do as individuals to achieve a city based on human rights is to track, monitor and expose such activity, and non-violently confront this racism as we would any racism. “A night flower can only thrive in the dark and dies in the sun…” …M.
—————————————————————————
” But through years of discussions, mostly behind closed doors, a consensus has been reached.  Almost all Palestinian leaders have agreed, either explicitly or implicitly, to the formula of a “just andagreed upon solution of the refugee problem.” – so that any solution is subject to Israeli approval.  I have spoken about this many times with Yasser Arafat, Faisal al-Husseini and others.
In practice, it means a symbolic number of refugees will be allowed back into Israel (the exact number to be fixed in negotiations), with the others to be resettled in the State of Palestine (which must be big and viable enough to make this possible) or receive generous compensation that will allow them to start a new life where they are or elsewhere.
TO MAKE this complicated and painful solution easier, everyone agreed that it would be best to deal with this matter near the end of the peace negotiations, after mutual trust and more relaxed atmosphere had been established.”

Hands up Americans who love Zionist apartheid?

NOVANEWS

Quite a few:

A new poll conducted by American news network CNN has reported that 67 percent of the American public feel sympathy for Israelis and not Palestinians, compared with 16% who claim to side with the Palestinians rather than Israel.

The poll was conducted by telephone from May 24-26. 1,007 adult Americans were asked their opinions on several different countries, including Israel.

The results show that pro-Israel feelings are on the rise in the United States. In a similar survey conducted in 2009, only 60 percent of the population sample expressed pro-Israel feelings, while 17%, one percentage point higher than 2011′s poll, claimed to sympathize with the Palestinians.

In addition to the high numbers expressing sympathy with Israeli, 82% of the audience said they felt Israel was either a friend or ally of the United States. Twelve percent said they did not regard Israel as a friend, and 5% classified the country as an US enemy. Only Great Britain received higher marks of friendship, with 98% of the polling audience calling that nation either a friend or ally. Conversely, 62% called China either a friend or ally, and only 26% expressed the same sentiment about Syria. 49% of those polled said they felt that North Korea was an enemy of the United States, the same “enemy” rating received by Iran, compared with 24% who said the same about Pakistan.
