Are We Putting All Our Best Efforts Into Searching For Exo-Planets That Are Like Earth?

PlanetQuest, founded by Laurence Doyle in 2000, (planetquest.org &planetquest.jpl.nasa.gov) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the search for exo-planets. PlanetQuest is not being fully supported in it’s work by the parties that hold the power to do so. Planetquest was originally designed to allow everyone with a computer and internet access, access to the data from the telescopes that are searching for exo-planets.
Since the projects inception in 2000 it has met many obstacles including budget cuts due to the lack of support in the search for planets outside of the gravitational field of our home star, the sun (sol). In 2005 the project finally launched its website with the promise of starting The PlanetQuest Collaboratory. On their website it states that
“The PlanetQuest Collaboratory will turn your computer (Mac, PC, Linux, and others) into a virtual astronomical observatory that you can use to make and share real scientific discoveries.”
Which means, finding other planets outside of our solar system. This is surely going to change science forever, but why is it not getting full support? Are the governing bodies trying to hide something? Do they already have information that they want to keep from the public? Why is it not being utilized to save American tax dollars?
The PlanetQuest project would save ALOT of money for sure. This will come along by allowing private citizens to engage themselves and their resources in the hunt for planets like earth, and planets that might harbor resources we as a species and civilization can mine. Not to mention, possibly finding humanoid species, or other intelligent life forms, harboring on another planet like ours.
Today marks a big day in the filed of exo-planet discoveries! There’s a live broadcast with Dr. Laurance Doyle!
“Subcommittee on Space and Subcommittee on Research Joint Hearing – Exo-planet Discoveries: Have We Found Other Earths?
Subcommittee on Space, Subcommittee on Research | 2318 Rayburn House Office Building Washington, D.C. 20515 | May 9, 2013 10:00am

During this live broadcast and meeting of the some of the best minds in the astronomy filed, we are sure to hear about the discoveries made by the teams as well as hear about the challenges they face while trying to achieve this goal.
If PlanetQuest was to reach it’s goal of launching it’s state of the art BOINC ( Berkely Operated Infrastructure for Networked Computing ) program, we would surely see fruits of the work done by private citizens in minutes, hours, and worst case scenario, days.
But, government agencies have tried to shut them down many times, and continue to stop the support of this program. We can only hope for the best on Laurence Doyle’s behalf. Hopefully someone at the meeting will stand tall, and take a stand to see that the new software and ideology are taken into consideration for the budget’s of the many sciences our society is just now, starting to take seriously.
