Clitheroe Grammar school closed by anti Academy strike
30 members of the NUT and NASUWT were on the picket line at Clitheroe Grammar School on Wednesday 15th December. They are striking against the proposal to turn the school into an Academy. The school was closed. On the picket line were staff, NUT and NASUWT officials and ATL officers – with drinks as well!

We can help you campaign. As Xmas approaches there have been a flurry of schools announcing their interest in becoming an Academy. Some are running consultations that run over the Xmas break and end early next year. One school announced it’s plan to become an Academy today, the last day of term!
One parent’s group ordered 4,000 newspapers this week and are organising a public meeting for Tuesday 4th January so that they can challenge the school’s plans.

GMB oppose Bankers ‘Free’ school in Battersea
The GMB are urging the LibDem partners in the coalition government to pull the plug on public spending to support a bankers “free” school in Battersea.
The Tory Party in control of Wandsworth council plan to use £13m of public funds to acquire the closed Bolingbroke Hospital as the site for this new secondary school although there are surplus places in the existing secondary schools in the borough.
Bankers from NM Rothchild, JP Morgan, Credit Suisse, Citi Group, Barclays Capital, Coutts, Normura, Morgan Stanley, Royal Bank of Scotland and from financial companies like Alchemy Partners Private Equity, Cenkos Securities and Lyceum Capital support the bankers “free” school
